Placement of hot glue to secure thermostat probe

I wanted to hear some opinions about how best to secure the thermostat probe inside the glass cage over the middle of the UTH (as recommended by the helpful Herpstat fellow).

Would you put the hot glue down the length of the probe cord, but leave the actual terminal sensor end without glue (which would still secure it in its proper place)? Or would you just glob down the glue for the terminal sensor end and cover it to make sure it stays put? I suppose what I am not certain of is whether the glue itself would interfere with the sensor's effectiveness.

Thanks for the response. You said "near" the sensor--does that mean you would aviod actually having any of the glue on/under/over the sensor to hold it in place.

Hmmmm thermostat probe should go directly on the heat source.....not inside the tank.....

I use inside and outside placements depending on the room the enclosure is in (the rooms that vary the most get inside placement my office varies 10-15º depending on what the sun is doing.)

Inside placement MUST be snake proof. I place the probe over the uth position a small blob goes down first and then I cover the whole probe and part way up the cord If it is a tank I'd also tack the cord into the corner as well. I completely cover the probe IT MUST not move.

I can't move on the outside either so it must be accident and pet (children proof as well) proof. Personally I always use a secondary T-stat failsafe for every enclosure. Also I'd recommend a 100% test (not if there is a snake inside !!!) run the heater unregulated for a few hours and find out what the maxed out temps are inside the enclosure. If you have wattage and enclosure and any spacers ect. set safely the inside temps will not be over 100ºF Snakes cannot digest at 100ºF but will not become burned and will be able to tolerate 100º for a while during some accident.

Why would it be bad for it to wiggle a little--but still not move beyond where it's centered over the UTH?

I'm happy to cover that terminal end--as long as it doesn't interfere with its sensitivity.

I was just following the recommendation of the fellow who sold the recommended thermostat (Herpstat ND). I understand that there's two ways to set it up--but this way (secured inside, over center of UTH) made intuitive sense to me.

tell me what you mean by "snake proof" (e.g., so the snake won't dislodge it?)

When i use hot glue on probes i lay the probe where i want it, then use the glue to secure directly on it covering the probe. Once the glue is not hot anymore you can go about your set temps like normal

btw, I am new to all of this, so please read my questions and curiosities as sincere wishes to learn more. I'm open to good info and know that the participants in the forum are sincerely advocating the best care of these animals.
