    Question Time for fuzzies?

    Hello,
I have a question about my ball python. I feed her every Monday and Thursday. When I bought her, four months ago, the pet store told me to feed her fuzzies. Against my better judgement, I bought a package of fuzzies and tried to feed one to my ball python, Cleo. She struck it. However, she would not grab ahold of it, nor would she eat it. It turns out, her prey was too large for her, so I bought pinkies. Instantly, she ate one. In fact, she has never refused to eat since I changed her diet. Based on this picture ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/60213480@N06/5920100647 ) is it time for fuzzies? I have been reluctant to give her a fuzzy because 1) I don't want to leave a negative imprint on her, when she is ready for fuzzies if she isn't ready yet and 2) I don't want to spend the money on a prey item if she is not ready for them.

Note: I only feed her frozen, thawed prey. She has done very well with her food.

food should be about the same size as the widest part of their bodies. but sometimes theyre a little intimidated by larger prey even if they should technically be able to eat it, so don't get frustrated if she's ready for fuzzies but shies away from them.

If the fuzzies are roughly the same size as your snake at her widest point, then she can take them. If you have a scale, you can weigh your snake, and feed prey that is 10%-15% of the snakes body weight. If she acts like she doesn't want it, I would suggest feeding every 5-7 days. That should give her a couple of extra days to get hungry and ready for the meal.

It's unusual that a fuzzy mouse would be too big for a BP. Pinkies are too small for any size baby BP unless it's a half size preemie hatchling from a boob egg. Those of mine that won't start on rat pups will start on large mouse fuzzies/hoppers.

I would definitely try fuzzies. Anything smaller and your baby will not grow much.

Well first, are you talking about fuzzy mice or fuzzy rats. If you are talking about fuzzy mice then no you should probably skip right to juvenile mice if not adults. If you are talking about rats then yeah I would try a fuzzy rat.

Hmm, I was hoping you guys/gals would be able to tell whether or not she is ready for fuzzies based upon the picture I posted. I will finish feeding her the last few pinkies I have and then I will give it a shot .:-)

    Thanks.

There is no point of reference in your photo. Put a dollar down or something so we have something to go on. Once again mouse or rat. There is a big difference?
