    Reptile club Northeast Ohio??

I'm in my garage this holiday weekend building a new rat rack. My mind started wondering away, and I realized that I don't have any friends that are into reptiles. I am very dedicated to my animals. They are my life. They are what I work for. I am a proud owner of 38 ball pythons and 4 American Bulldogs.

I would love to start a club for reptiles to meet once a week. I am located about 20 minutes south of Akron. I'm a web designer student, but I'm not young anymore. LOL. I'm 31.

When I got into reptiles, I found a lot of conflicting information on their husbandry, and breeding. I would love to form a group with similar interests that would love to learn and share knowledge.

I'm posting this because I'm wondering if anyone else in this area is interested. I can't do it by myself, but can put a lot of work into it.

    Thanks,
    Stephanie

I know everyone is probably out tonight at parties, but I thought I would post my progress.

This in another ASF/mice rack! I'm going to start on another rat rack now! Not too bad for a girl!

I have to wait for a visitor to get it down stairs! LOL

That would be cool. What kind of ideas do you have in mind for the club? I live in malvern, and I have a friend in waynesburg that has a petty large collection of reptiles. Nice job on the rack by the way.
    Can't stop with just one!

I think that would be a lot of fun. I also don't have anyone away from here that is into reptiles. I wouldn't be able to meet once a week since I live way down in Northern Kentucky but maybe we could meet sometime at the Cincinnati reptile show.

I love the rat rack too by the way. I really have been wanting to make one. How many rats does it hold? How much did it cost to make?

    Re: Reptile club Northeast Ohio??

I don't have anything set in stone yet. My ideas are to have a speaker each meeting about the care and breeding of a certain type of reptile. I would also like to publish a monthly newsletter with free classifieds for members through email. I used to belong to a fish group that had monthly shows at meetings for points and an auction at the end. I have never seen a competition for ball pythons, but that may be an option for the future.

I'm open to ideas. My goal is to create an educational environment to bring together people with interests in reptiles.

I also thought of free tables for breeders with animals for sale.

    Thanks Michele,

The tubs I bought of a restaurant supply online. They were about 4-5 dollars a piece with shipping.

On my mouse/asf rack I used 1/4" wire cloth. It was $30 for a big roll at Lowes and did 2 racks.

I have about 30 in wood for 2 racks.

The cloth for the rat racks are cheaper because I use 1/2".

My mouse/ asf racks easily hold 1.8 without smell, being cleaned once a week.

My rat racks I run 3 females to a tub and move my male through them. I bought the concrete tubs from lowes. I'm sure you could fit more, but my guys are in my basement, and I don't like them to smell.

My friend told me that he would run 1.5 rats in my tubs, but I don't like to clean cages more than once a week. LOL

The rack system is worth the time and money! Tubs are so much easier to clean than aquariums.

My wife and I have 28 BP's now along with several other herps and many other pets! We live in Kent, OH (pretty close to you) and would love to help out with a project like this! Let me know if we can help get things started...At the least we could all get together and talk herps!

We feel your pain as we have no friends that are into snakes like us.

    P.s. I like the rack!

Thanks! I would love to get together and talk herps! I'm hoping to find more people in the area that are interested. I'm not sure where to begin with a club, but think it would be a lot of fun!

Great! It is rough when you are so passionate about something, but you can't really share it with anyone!

Are you going to the cleveland show on the 17th? Maybe some of us could meet up there? That would be a start!
