You know lately its come to my attention that many don't take care of there monitors especially savs and that pet stores give out wrong info. So please tell me if i doing something wrong. Savannah monitor:
Cage size: Currently in a 4x2x2 while we build him his 4x4x8 enclosure (hes only 4 in. right now)
Diet: he eats 2 pinkies a week sometimes more if a snake doesn’t want one he also eats 15-30 crickets a week and occasionally some turkey.
Heat: his cool side is temp gunned at 86.27 right now and his warm/basking at 117.23. He also gets a UVA/UVB bulb. He has 2 hides.
Handling: i handle him for about 15 mins. each day.
Water: he has a water dish that is 6 inches long (Zilla) and enjoys spending time in it.
Dumerils monitors:
Cage size: there finally out of quarantine and in there 4x4x8 enclosure ( i have 2 used to have 3 but one came in really sick and wouldn’t eat).
Diet: eat 1-2 crawfish ea. once every other day.
Heat: there basking temp is 110.76 and cool is 86.34. I also provide these with UVA/UVB.
Handling: my female, Star is allowed to roam the reptile room 2-4 times a week, but my male Godzilla is way too nasty to do that. (my female is still mean but not as much as Godzilla).
Water: They have a huge water dish (3x3x1).
Blue tree monitors:
Cage size: i have these animals in an 4x4x8 (same size as dumerils)
Diet: Ground turkey, mice, fish, eggs, dubias and anything else they choose to eat.
Heat: basking of 112.53 and cool spot of 84.73.
Handling: my male, Bad Dog, never gets handled as he doesn’t tolerate and would probably rip my hand off if i tried, and my female is occasionally handled but only when i have an educational show or b-day party to go to. (shes much nicer than my male and sits on my head at shows).
Water: I have the same sized water dish for the blue trees as i do for the dumerils.
As a side note i should add in that i dont clip my monitors nails nor do i wear gloves (it make people think they bite) and yes, my hands are in terrible conditions.
