    I'm wondering if I just have to find a breeder that has one and buy it from them...or if I can make my own somehow.
    I know I've seen rat breeders on here post pictures of them. How did you guys do it?
    You would need to have a rat carrying the Black Eyed gene in your colony. This is not the same as the high white/spotting BEW (Black Eyed Whites) that you see. With these animals you can breed them into Siamese, Himalayans, Albinos, etc.

    You'll need to acquire one from a local rattery or bum one from snakesRkewl. While it isn't a super rare gene, it's not one you can make or find just anywhere.

    Sadly, I don't have any rats carrying the Black Eyed gene, I only have Black Eyed Whites.

    Are you saying breed to any rat that has black eyes or to a specific type like a black eyed siamese?

    No, there is a certain Black Eyed gene that shows through even in Albinos, Siamese, etc. They are not commonly seen in the pet trade yet. Go to the link Rhasputin provided, maybe that will help you understand it a little better than I can explain it.

    In order to make a BES (Black Eyed Siamese), you will need to find someone who carries one of the Black Eyed lines, not just any Black Eyed rat will work. It is a certain line.

    Black eyes seen on normal rats are just the default eye colour. The black eyes seen on black eyed siamese, and black eyed himilayan, are caused by a specific gene (Be/*).

    Most rats don't have this gene at all and would be considered (be/be) meaning they do not have the gene what-so-ever.

    An animal with Be/be (one copy of the black eyed gene) would show it as well as, I'm pretty certain but correct me if i'm wrong, and animal with Be/Be (two copies of the black eyed gene).

    It's similar to the pink eyed gene, but Black eye is dominant, and pink eye is recessive.

    well this female molted and her points are faded. Not the best looker unless she molts again and they get darker.

    Michelle

    I didn't realize how hard it was to get the black eyed Siamese ratty's, I feel lucky to have them in my lines of Siamese.

    On a side note my rat breeding partner just had a litter of all Black Eyed Whites, I'll be sure to get some pics as they fuzz up some

    Siamese rats are acromelanism :Siamese color & points are temperature sensitive, so winter coats are always darker than coats which come out during warmer weather, regardless of point colour.

    @Michelle,
    I work with both seal points and russian blue points with ruby eyes. I am aware of the BE gene, but was just curious if you've ever heard of anyone having success introducing the BE into a siamese line while playing with some burmese genetics that didn't have the BE in its pedigree?
