Just as I expected, varied results. There's no such thing as certainty with animals.

I agree about the show being totally negative towards the snakes, but I watched it anyway just to see my favorite animals : ).

The problem is, more people are attacked by pet dogs than pet snakes, but one never hears "Be carefull or your dog might eat you in your sleep".

I watched this show on animal planet called "The Big Squeeze", did anyone else catch it? It was about Giant pythons. Mainly they just talked about them attacking people (If it bleeds, it leads you know), but it did have some great tips for anyone who might find themselves being constricted.

These are all techniques people throughout the show used to make the snakes release (The smart ones anyway. One person called the police, who shot the snake in the head then decapitated it. Another guy tried stabbing the snake, which didn't work).

1. Poor Drinking Alcohol on the snakes eyes or in its mouth. (This is of course only recomended in a life or death situation. I'm sure alcohol isn't good for the snake. Much better than stabbing the snakes like some people did on the show though)

2. Poor Warm/Hot water on the snake.

3. Bend the snakes tale backward at a sharp angle.

Does anyone have a testimony for the effectiveness of these techniques?

I ended up with my entire hand in a good sized burms mouth (about 12' if I remember correctly) because the only hook I had close at hand was a 24" and I was too lazy to grab a proper length one when I realized the snake was in feeding mode when I opened the cage. I just let it hold on for a couple of minutes and it let go on its own. it really didn't take too long for it to figure out it's mistake once I stopped struggling and as a result I had only very minor damage to my hand and the snake didn't injure it mouth fighting to hang on to me. In my experience unless you’re life is in danger the best course of action in this situation is to, remain calm and still and the snake should let go fairly quickly.
