ovy, but pre-lay shed is late?

So Lois, my 2007 pos het lavender female is at 1600 grams, has been breeding regularly all spring, had five big follicles in early April, and two weeks ago she showed clear signs of ovulation: glowing like mad, with a big lump 2/3 down that got very tense and hard. A friend who also breeds ball pythons agreed that it was "definitely an ovulation", and we put the female on egg watch.

So now two weeks have gone by, and there's no sign of a pre-lay shed. Did Lois fake us out somehow? I can see faking the glow, but not the lump. Definitely not both.

Oh, she was curling up on the warm side for a week after the "ovulation", but now she's hanging out on the cold side again. What's up with that?

Theres no set guide how their to act.

I had a female lay this year that didnt shed after ovulation. I count 45-55 days after ovulation to expect eggs, not the shed.

And females will still hang out on cool side, some more than others. My female that laid last week laid her eggs on cool side.

Re: ovy, but pre-lay shed is late?

    +1 on what Rich said.

I'd rather measure from ovy, if I catch it. I had a female shed twice after ovy, and laid 1 week after the second shed. I thought I had it mis-calculated, cause I was sure the first shed after ovy was the pre-lay shed. The second shed sure threw me off. Just shows me, though, that they all do their own thing. They'll be relatively close to each other in behavior, but there will always be big exceptions to the rules. And those rules are just guesstimated rules of thumb/guidelines.

Anyway, keep watch for about 5 weeks from now having eggs. (45-55 days after ovy)

2 weeks isn't long - My three females all took 17, 20 & 23 days to have the pre-lay shed. It usually occurs 2-3 weeks after the ovulation from what I've observed & read but there will always be variance.

Also there are rare reports of females not shedding at all during pregnancy - so anything is possible! The ball pythons don't exactly have calendars

Not shedding after ovulation is NOT rare. I get 1-2 girls each season not shed.

I meant it is not the most common Rare was the wrong word. You always hear people talking about them shedding, no one really mentions the non-shedders

    More uncommon than common?

...Thanks, guys. She's back on the warm spot, too. I think she's just out to make me crazy.

I have a female that ovulated on the 10th and she just went blue 2 days ago. It all varies from female to female.
