    Re: So I found a baby squirrel . . .

About 6 months ago our neighbors dog attacked a little squirrel, thankfully it didn't kill the poor thing. We ended up keeping it in a box wrapped in a towel for a few hours before taking it to the emergency vet. Little guy had a bloody nose.

Anyhow, it was VERY calm. The em. vet basically said it wasn't going to live and that it was in shock, but they could keep it overnight and give it fluids. I asked what they would do if it lived through the night and they said that when it was better, they would open the front door and let it free.

    *forehead smack*

They are located in the middle of a busy intersection. Idiots.

I declined and took the little squirt home. Put him in a wire cage. Watered him from a syringe and fed him veggies for 3 days all while he stayed curled in a ball. Woke up on the 4th day and he was clinging to the side! Let him go and have never seen him since!

That's adorable! Glad the story had a happy ending.

The place I'm taking him specializes in CA wildlife, it's not a vet. In my neighborhood there's a lot of wildlife so my neighbor recommended this place. She's found baby bunnies, possums, raccoons, etc and taken them all there to be rehabilitated.

im getting a squirrel soon only because the squirrel bonded with people and dogs so it can not be released ive had 5 squirrels before and they are quite easy to raise but take time to release but luckily 4 out of 5 squirrels were released successfully the other one grew to attached to me once again then a couple years later she passed im actually hoping more people will bring in squirrels to me im already being over run with baby cottontails lol

Well I've got a sad update. The poor little bugger didn't make it. I found a local woman who rehabs them, but he passed away this morning.

Oh no! That's so sad at least you did what you could to make him comfortable.
