My Critters - Pic Heavy!
So after much stumbling around, I think I've deduced that pictures of my animals go in this forum. I got a little sidetracked when I saw the britain's got talent thread and started getting all emotional.. but here we go.. finally.
Some pictures of my critters... I still need another sunny day to get pictures of some of the others (rainbow, the dumerils, het pied bp, albino laby burm), until then, this is what I have:
This is Ted, the angry Green Anole. This picture is him being very upset because I grabbed him, and shoved a mealworm in his mouth as he opened it at me. At first he was upset for being grabbed.. and then he decided mealworms were a GREAT idea... which means I now can go a few extra days without worrying about buying crickets =)

Steve Miller, Florida Kingsnake:

Boyfriend's burm, Baxter:

Loxley, the meanest snake I've ever encountered. This 9inch ball of fire will "jump-strike" clear out of his tub, and chase you acros the floor. No joke:

Rousseau, Jag Sib Coastal Carpet Python ( <3! ):

Rousseau's Habitat at the back is about as wide as your average doorframe, and just as tall (including the 'lid-frame'). In the back sitting on top of the metal screen/grate at the top I have a UVB flourescent bulb for Rousseau... but also for the plants, which are live. In the front left is a red heat bulb, the middle is a larger ceramic heat emitter, and to the right front is a daylight heat bulb. The UVB and Daytime bulb shut off at night and are on a timer. Heat gradient is top to bottom, since she prefers to perch up in the branches, and the plants prefer not to be cooked.

Senegal Parrot, Normandy:

Woohoo, another bird owner. My parents don't understand how I can have both. They think I should drop the reptiles and keep the birds. The birds have more chance of biting the kid than my snakes do. Sigh.
That 9 inches of terror even looks like he wants to eat your camera. He has 'feisty' written all over him.
0.1 Pastel Lesser Platinum (BP)
0.1 Dumerils Boa
0.1 Indian Sand Boa (Sunset)
0.1 Kenyan Sand Boa (Anery)
0.1 Kenyan Sand Boa (Rufescen)
0.1 Kenyan Sand Boa (Paradox Albino)
1.0 Kenyan Sand Boa (Paradox Snow)
And a lot of Tarantulas

I would love to have more birds too, but I'm lucky with Normandy bc he is the perfect apartment bird. His noises are an acceptable level, and rarely happen. He's taken to more talking and less chirping/squealing (he doesn't scream or 'squak' he beeps, whistles, and "WOOO!"s), and he had great socialization. Not a big cuddler (loves a head scratch on his terms) but he is very formal/tolerant of people. The only time he has actually bit and intended to hurt, is when I was attempting to put a flight suit onto him.. otherwise if he's upset he will gently, but firmly grab fingers and push them away from him.
What birds to you have?

Thats awesome because I now some loud Senegals. I have a blue headed pionus thats pretty quiet but I have a blue and gold macaw that moooore and makes up for him. My mother perfers birds because she has four blue and golds, a green wing, an illiger and my pionus' parents (she raise's birds ). I just don't know how she can talk about how people mistreat and don't understand birds and that some are the way they are because of bad people- and then go on to say the only good snake is a dead snake. I just don't get it. Oh well. It takes all kinds. Its awesome that you can manage on non-parakeet in an apartment. Most landlords flip.

Yeah I was surprised about the bird too. My last place, I kind of got an exception bc I talked to one of the guys on the phone and he told me flat out I could have my pets, then I went to sign the lease, and it said no pets... but once I questioned them, and said the guy told me I could have them, and that he's quiet, they let me have the bird. This place flat out said 'so long as it lives in a cage or aquarium, no problem'. He makes less noise than most parakeets I've been around, and sometimes I hearthe neighbors saying 'pretty bird!' trying to get him to start talking again. lol. He only talks when he thinks nobody is listening however.

We have three parrots in our apartment. No one seems to notice them unless the balcony door is open. Don't think the landlord minds, but I think it helps that we've had the apartment so long that he's the third or fourth landlord to own the place since the original lease was drawn up.
The rules here have come & gone on dogs but afaik anything else has always been ok. The problem with dogs has been their crappy owners. You wouldn't believe how many people have rented in our complex with dogs and then proceeded to let the dog destroy their apartment [scratching & eating up woodwork & carpeting everywhere], or refused to take care of them [a few years ago this one tennent kept their dog in a crate so small it couldn't turn around and then left it like that on their balcony to bark all day while they were at work]. Then there have been all the dog owners that wouldn't clean up after them and things like that. It was a big problem. The irresponsible dog owners greatly outnumbered the renters who were responsible about it.

It is really unfortunate that this is how things tend to work out I pay a deposit for a reason, and I've never had reason for a landlord not to return my deposit... that is with pets that have -not- destroyed anything.

Yea it's a raw deal for the landlord because the security deposit [one month of rent iiirc] only covers the down time for the apartment being empty while undergoing repairs. That doesn't cover the added expense of buying new carpeting or new drywall or new trim or the labor to do the work. I wouldn't be surprised if he looses money on it every time he has to deal with it. He could probably go after them in court but that's just more added time & work.
