Bitey Woma! Maybe more feedings?

Alright so I love my 2010 woma girl, but she is one bitey animal. Cage cleans and handling I always come away with "realistic battle Damage".


I hear womas are docile, and I lough her rough and tough attitude sooooo much.

But I wonder should I be feeding her more.

She's a 2010 Female, she has been getting a small mouse every 7 days. I am pondering increasing that to a small mouse every 4 days.

It is not uncommon for them do be snappy when they are young.

She'll eventually calm down.

When i got my pair the male was pretty aggressive at first. After a few weeks and a little love he calmed down really fast and is a wonderful snake! With a little time and handling im sure she will calm down for you!

You don't think the prey size was to small? Ont he Aussie forum they were telling me I should be feeding small adult rats but that seems far to large.

Without seeing her in relation to the prey size I can't tell. It's very normal to be snappy until they get some size on them.

Ill get some pics/weights in a couple days I fed her 2 small adult mice last night.

I agree with skip, its hard to tell without seeing a picture but i will say that when i switched mine from mice to rats they became alot more docile.. Youd be suprised how big a meal a snake can eat. I was worried about feeding mine aswell but i eventualy decided to try it and it worked great. Theyre slender snakes but they can down a rat at a young age, so i say go ahead and try it,

Having kept and bred 100's of womas...... I can tell you the absolute worse thing you can do is..... feed it big meals.
Womas (like the Black Headed Pythons) are mostly reptile eaters in the wild and the fat content of rodents causes all types of issues from fat bodies on internal organs, to reproductive failure.
Woma's are not as easily effected as the BHPs but, it's NEVER a good idea to feed meals.... larger than the head of said animal.

Want to feed more and grow fast....feed SMALLER meals more often.
They grow MUCH better that way.

Aspidities are not ambush predators...they are active hunters that search for food daily....hence why they seem hungry all the time.
in the wild, they eat small meals, bearded dragons, skinks, etc.....

Thanks for chiming in Derek, i only have one pair and i got them this year so im still pretty new to womas so i apologize for the bad info on my part. At the moment im feeding mine small rats it seems to be working out quite well and seems to be the right size. Geuss you really do learn something new everyday.
My female just shed so i figured id post the pics ( sorry not trying to thread hijack ) This is Jill my female. Shes bigger than she looks.

Looking at your Woma I'd say move them down to weaned and feed twice as often.

They're great animals....
