Re: I Want a Big Snake!
haha hey stupid and stupider.. yeah your funny, and idc if you where in the army for 100 years and became super secret agent man, you obviously have no idea of the strength these creatures have or youd understand.. tie your arm to your waist and see how u shoot.. u think because you shoot it its gonna say sorry im done? no.. they dont stop squeezing until theyve been dead for a few hours.. a knife will cut (if nessesary) a 15 foot snake into a 7 foot snake.. lets see where that bullet gets you, had u said pocket knife no one would have said a thing but since you wanna be a funny guy ill be the first to call u out and say how sorry i feel for any animal in your possession.. and as of the lemon juice comment? you ask any knowledgeable snake keeper be it a boa or monster keeper and they will tell u the same thing.. anything with a bad taste like whisky or lemon juice breaks the feeding responce and makes them let go.. not shooting needless holes in an animal and possibly yourself.. so 007 do me a favor read up.. grow up.. and then talk to me
to op.. in all reality both the knife and gun are bad ideas and you should always follow the 6 or 8 foot rule to never need to be into this situation but in the case youd find yourself in one any strong liquid or cold water even works
/and end rebuttle/rant thank you and have a fantastic day

It sounds more like you guys take things in with you just to feel secure even though it wont do much. In the end, if a snake that big does a fully dedicated coil, its taking you to the ground and you wont be able to reach for anything period. Somebody in the room with you is the only way to help the situation by calling emergency services and doing anything neccessary to get the snake off. Lets all stop the bickering and agree we all have are own ways to feel secure when dealing with these large constrictors.

i couldent agree with you more snake, and since i didnt have time to edit my previous post i appolagize for my insults i simply got aggitated is all, when it boils down to it niether a knife or gun would do any good, a liquid like i suggested or a friend would be the best course of action.

I feel sorry for the fellow who started this post. I came in to read it looking for advice for myself on large snakes - I didn't expect it to turn into a childish argument. Guys, if you must throw insults at each other, at least take it to private messaging...or start your own post where you can argue to your heart's content. This is supposed to be the friendliest online forum, remember? It seems to me that if you don't have something to contribute to the original poster's questions, maybe you shouldn't be posting in the thread.

Re: I Want a Big Snake!
I do not own big snakes, but I do not see anything wrong with keeping a knife, gun, or whatever handy just in case. I love my snakes, but I am not willing to let them kill me. If a knife, gun, or whatever does the trick, then that's what I would use.
BTW, to the owner of the large retic that has a gun handy, don't be offended. Many people love to shoot off their mouths on the net, but most of them would never do so in person. I guess the keyboard gives them confidence...

Ok first off I didn't insult you by calling you names..I simply stated that the comment that was made that it would be easier to grab a knife or lemon juice, than a gun. Thats what I said was stupid how you could believe you can grab either one of those faster. if they are in your pocket or attached to your side.
Second, As I previously stated in past postings, I have other things that are taking into consideration first, like the listerine. Now you stated you ask anyone and they will tell you to use lemon juice, thats fine, cold water, lemon juice, or listerine. I agree with you on this as stated I was simply questioning the comment of getting to them faster. If I read into the comment to much then I apologize.
Third off, I do understand the power of these animals, and maybe the gun is a "make me feel better option" but its mine you choose a knife I choose a gun.
I did take offence to the "it sounds like an excuse to carry the gun comment" I simply stated, REGARDLESS of occupation in the military I had more than enough time to carry a gun. As I stated i live in the middle of no where, that in itself would give me an excuse to carry the gun. I also carry a concealed weapons license and can carry the gun, I choose not to. I stated that I only have the gun, as an extra precaution. The original precaution was for my protection, against people who wanna break into my house, car, etc..etc.. I didn't buy the gun for the snake.
Fourth, You insulted me by calling me stupid and without sinking to your maturity level, I will not say the same, but it goes to prove in my last posting that instead of skimming someones last post read the whole thing then, come at them with your opinion, and state it as an opinion. I do apologize if I came on as stating that I knew it all, but once again I don't. I am hoping that you have read this whole reply instead of skimming over it, As it seems you did before.
Fifth, I am not trying to start any arguments, as stated by a previous poster this is supposed to be the friendliest reptile community online. YetI haven't seen it. I do feel sorry for the original poster, that started this thread as he was trying to get info, BASED ON OPINIONs from those of us, who have been doing this awhile, whether it be you, me or someone else.
I do also agree that either way we all have our own ways of handling our snakes, I handle all my retics and brumes with the same caution, I do not put a lot of trust in them, But I do use all of them in educational shows and some I know will be better behaved than others and there are precautions set forth by this.
I apologize once again to anyone I offended, And now Its the end of the rebuttle/rant Thank you and you have a fantastic day.

I love my anaconda but the only thing I hate is I have to clean it's cage everyday. They go to the bathroom daily unlike red tails or the pythons. Luckily mine has been pretty good at not going to the bathroom in his water bowl. He seems to always get out when he has to go. But I always give fresh water to him daily or every other day.
I find it easier when my snakes go in there water bowl. My false water cobra practically lives in his water bowl so thats where he basically goes to the bathroom. So instead of spot cleaning and replacing substrate all I have to do is change his water and clean the bowl. I keep some of my corns in racks with pvc couplers and deli cups for water bowls so when they go in there water bowl thats real easy to clean.

I agree 100%, I'd much rather dump and wash out the water bowl than clean up poop in random places throughout the cage.
