NO Humidity in my tub

Okay so before I got my ball the humidity in my tub was fine, now that he is here the humidity is so low. I constantly have to put a warm towel over the tub to keep it up to 70%(he's in shed). I even put some sphagunum moss in there and the water bowl half way over the heat pad.... It might be too many holes but I didn't go overboard but its just annoying. It just keep dropping to 40% and I don't mind putting the towel over but I don't want to keep bugging him since I just got him. And its annoying having the humidity problems as a tank with out the ability to see in....Any advice would be awesome thanks for reading

A crappy analog I know I know, bought this one digital one and its pretty bad its self going to get a good digital one soon.

I know out here in California I don't put holes in my tubs because I with my newspaper substrate it's just too dry out here. All they need is a good misting every so often and they all seem to shed just fine for me without holes. I wouldn't be too worried about it though, as 40% is fine. What substrate do you use? Simple cypress mulch and a good misting should last a while even with holes.

Well I bought about 37lbs of aspen, so can't really throw that away and get mulch or coconut husk, but i guess I wont worry about it so much.

That would most likely be your problem. Get an accurite reader, you can find them in the outdoor section of your local home improvement store. They're like 15 dollars.

Like others said; 40% isn't all that bad. Although for my snakes probably a little low during shed. Mine usually sits at about 40%, but I usually mist my tubs once in the morning and once before I go to bed if they are in shed. I don't like the tubs to get below 60% during shed and then they usually don't have any problems.

And aspen isn't that bad at keeping humidity. Probably not as good as cypress, but better than newspaper as far as humidity is concerned.

And I also would definitely invest in an Accurite!

Don't bother get a good analogue one cheaper and work just as well. Look at cigar humidor ones that are calibratable they can be adjusted to be correct if they are wrong. The calibratable digital ones cost 5 times more and the little dial thing on the front moves very easily I had one for an afternoon and returned it as I am sure the snake would adjust it by itself.

My accurite is almost 20% high with humidly (temps were 1.3ºF low...), just saying. I might just have a different idea of what accurate is. I use very very accurate instruments at work and am fussy about it apparently. To me 3% off I'll live with (not happily however...) and 0.5ºF temps is about as good as I'll pay for but I really want better, but I want a BEL more...
