I don't have a problem with his project. Why shouldn't he make money doing it? Can you imagine the amount of time and effort that would go into collating that much information and compiling it into an attractive and usable format? It's a daunting task. As for compensating the photographers....I think it's up to individuals. If I'm excited about just having my name in his book as credit for my picture, then why not? If someone feels that is unfair use of their pictures, then they simply need not submit.

I'll say this though...for everyone who wants that book, you should probably start saving your pennies now....cause that sucker is gonna be expensive!

haha you beat me to it! I was going to site this same reference!!! I also agree that while this is an amazing project and a huge undertaking- that old media (print) is not the best way to go for this because by the time he finishes compiling the book- even before he takes it to the publisher- it will already be outdated... considering that there are new morphs/combos being produced all the time.

I would be interested in creating a wikipedia sort of morph list to where the community can edit it themselves with pictures, dates, genetics, creators, etc. This would allow for the MOST current information.

sorry for a second... but I think that this book will be an amazing reference as well and wish him the best for this DAUNTING task!!!

    well....

    I like books.

If it tells me how to make a magpie etc I'll probably buy it. **hint hint**

Because eyecandy is the stated appeal of the book, and he has a lot of eyecandy at his disposal , I think it will be fairly succesful.

But yeah, if it is out in the fall, it will be out of date in a couple of months at the rate new combinations are appearing.

Maybe he should produce a yearly "industry wide" production report in the smaller softcover format to try and keep it up to date long term.

Or/ and an e-book version where you can buy updates or updated versions for a set number of years. 3 sounds about right.

    Then release a new version.

I thought I'd share my opinion on the two points being discussed.

    1. The book getting outdated.

I still love my Vpi book forgot the name now lol

I will just get the next one when they publish it . I love to sit down and flip through pic's of the stuff I love its far more gratifying than pic's on the computer screen.

    2. Compensation.

If I produced the first Lesser superstripe for example lol I would love for my name and snake to be in that book it would make me super proud.

I think that book is a great idea ! And I see no problem with reaping the profit after putting in the work and effort.
Many people would think it compensation enough to see their beautiful snake in a book, along with their name as "producer" of it.
So will Kevin actually have to say whats IN his snakes ?? hehe
Seems to me he sometimes breeds so many diff. genes into his snakes (6 gene this with 7 gene that) that he isn't sure anymore just what that cool snake may be genetic wise, exactly, LOL.

Isn't he a little late with a morph book idea. I bought John Berry's last year at the Daytona show and absolutely love it!!! Now I second the magazine thread. I would definately subscribe to a monthly magazine. And who am I kidding? I will absolutely buy this book as well ....

As far as being compensated for being in the book I think as long as the person is credited with producing the snake then they are getting compensated with free publicity.
