I don't know how big your snakes are but in my previous experience with boas that was always a sign to move on to bigger prey. If that's happening often you might want to consider the next size prey item.

You might want to look at how you are defrosting the rat pups though - they shouldn't burst.

Agree with both, if the f/t are bursting you are leaving them to thaw too long or you bought a bad batch of f/t pups.
