Mine got screwed into the raceway which is thin sheet metal covering the wires for the lighting and coper lines. That was all gutted so I had nothing behind the raceway to worry about.

I furred mine out 2-1/2" to allow for fan depth and air space behind the fan as well to allow air movement.

The fur out strips are just screwed to the back of the inside of the fridge

Mine only has approximately 1/2'' of space between the plywood and the back wall. I figured there wouldn't be a need for more space and didn't want to loose more space than needed. I caculated mine still has 505 cubic inches of space for air flow. Its mantaining 88 degrees perfectly in the egg tubs.

Re: Just finished my DIY incubator

    Nice incubators guys!!

Our next bator will be a stand up freezer like that so I have a few questions. If the heat tape needs to be replaced can you get to it easily, or can the false wall be removed easily? And do you think mold will grow on the wood?

Unfortunately the false wall would have to be removed. I have a friend in the process of making a upright freezer into an incubator. He's making the false wall on the side rather than the back for easy access in the event the flex wall needs to be replaced.
