Wear gloves if you're nervous about him. Seriously.

I had a couple animals that really wanted to chew on me full-time as babies. They've grown up nice, but it wasn't any fun when they were going through that phase. And even after I got over the "OMG a SNAKE is STRIKING at me" fear, it would still make me a little angry to get bitten. And anger is really bad news, because you can't take it out on an animal that's 1/100 your weight. So, gloves.

hello! i just joined these forums today i've fostered some snakes for a little over a year now and started collecting a few of my own aswell recently. i've been bit by one of my angrier adults a few times and a couple babies.. it's really not bad. mice and rat bites on the other hand DO hurt. your fear of rodents is not unfounded! haha. i own a ton of rats and they're all nice. but my mommy rats bite HARD. i rather take eggs from a snake than babies from a rat... that's my 12 cents... sorry hehe

My mom dropped one of mine, pretty much threw it actually. Luckily it was only about a foot onto my recliner. No more holding snakes for my mom!!! Unfortunately she's the one who comes over to check on my snakes and cats when I'm on vacation...lol. I have heard that they can become scared/nervous about being held after something like that happens, but truthfully, I don't think they are smart enough to put two and two together like a dog or cat could. Even a rat could figure out the dangers of being held after something like that, but I have my doubts about a snake catching on. Also, about him possibly being injured, I doubt a vet could have done much about internal bleeding or bruising. I would have done the same thing you did, besides the dropping it part, lol. *Knock on wood*

    Is he still doing fine?

If you think mice and bps are bad, how do you hold kittens?! I think they are far worse! Now if you said you were afraid of getting bit by a rat I wouldn't blame you. I've been bit once and it wasn't fun! I still handle all my feeders without gloves though

See this is kinda why I am paranoid about anyone holding my BP's... lol

If it struck or bit and they were to throw my snake, I'm afraid I'd have to knock them out

I would recommend the gloves too, I wore them at first when I got my first snake. I make the kids wash their hands before & after handling the snakes & I do the same thing myself. I also don't handle them the day before or after feeding or if they are in shed. The kids are nervous still so we do short, frequent handling sessions so they always have a pleasant experience & I take the snake from them if I see them getting nervous, which they do when the snake turns into curious george
