You do realize it does cost money to breed right? Not many of us are in it just for the money, but what's the point in selling them for "dramatically" low prices??? If you're just into giving away money, I'd be glad to send you my address and you can send me all that extra cash you have lying around...

Keep in mind it's gonna cost for incubators, thermostats, tubs, racks, feeders, substrate, electricity to run it all...your time...etc...

    Always by your side...
    That cat's something I can't explain...

I don't agree with that 100%.... A lot of people keep small expensive collections in their home. If they invite you in, you know what they have and where you live. A lot of people don't offer home tours for that reason. I'm one of them. If I've got animals to sell or trade I meet in a neutral location. I don't want strangers in my house, I'm sorry.

That is where I dont worry, between the security system, video system, dogs, and the fact that all my neighbors know I'm the crazy neighbor. Trust is a big thing to me but I dont trust people in my house. They will get caught. On the flip side, I dont trust people I buy things from either. I have seen and been in too many horror stories. I tend to trust a little if someone doesn't mind me knowing where they live (or location of items for purchase). You know what I am getting at. To add, with animals people can say they live like kings but I want to see it for myself.

    Re: Really cheap bumblebee

Perhaps it has a severe wobble? Last show I was at someone was selling a proven male spider at 1000 grams for $100 due to a severe wobble. He was beautiful, but his wobble was ridicules. It was almost inhumane to watch it live like that.

I'd be really, really wary of that. That deal just seems a little too god to be true.

He says he has "too many". To many bees ? If so, how many bee producing pairs does he have and if he can't sell them why breed them ? Too many babies in general ? So, why not sell the cheap stuff first ?

I just would not trust this at all. And if, by some long shot, it is just what he says it is, knowing he is driving good breeders under by cutting his prices so low would make me not want to buy from him anyway.

Then you are severly limiting yourself to animals that are available by doing that. Very few people are allowed into my home that I don't know. And I also don't know whether the person I'm allowing into my home has sick animals at home and what they may be carrying in on their clothes. Mites are just ONE of the worries, airborne diseases are others. Protection of the health of my collection comes first and foremost.

Most breeders I know are very protective of there homes, they simply do not want people coming over to chat it is too intrusive in the home life. I also know breeders that get into a bind and need to reduce the available animals quickly, like 2010s to make room for the new hatchlings in the incubator. Or a new baby and just can't spend most of a day a week cleaning and want to reduce the numbers so they have to go. They also could be selling bad feeders, snakes in contact with IBD or something else. It isn't a red flag for me but it all comes down to the reputation of the breeder. A breeder with a good reputation is very unlikely tying to scam anyone and has some reason for reducing the collection, ask them. A poor reputation breeder I personally will not buy from period, there is too much that rests on simple trusting the breeder and if you have a rep for being untrustworthy I am not going to risk my animals health on that ever.

I care more about the people receiving the babies that I produce than I care about those who are trying to turn a profit.

I've given away every single crested gecko baby I've produced. I don't plan on selling any until I produce trophy animals.

    Re: Really cheap bumblebee

A few years back I had someone come over to pick up a snake I was selling. Deal went smoothly and I went about my day.... Later that night he showed back up, drunk, with a few friends who were interested in getting snakes too. They were harmless, but situations like that can get ugly.

I quickly adopted the meet somewhere routine.
