New baby, need advice...

Got a new baby pastel a week and four days ago, he has been snippy ever since... now at the store, I held him four times and if never snapped at me. He was in a 41qt tub, switched to a 26 qt. He's a little better now, still very defensive, and usually goes right to a s strikeing pose, and tips on helping me out....

My just 5 snakes never have me this problem, but this is the first snake I've got to house in my rack. All others were kept go aquariums to start off... could that be it?

Each snake is going to be different, as you probably know by now. I think that at the store it was used to its environment, and now it's been in a new environment for less than two weeks with a bumpy ride between the two. Some snakes adjust well and quickly, others not so much.

I'd try the usual tricks such as putting a shirt that you have worn in the cage so it can get used to your smell, handling once a day (take a bite or two if you have to) for under a minute and keeping at that schedule, and so on. To include checking temps and humidity. If you haven't taken it for a vet checkup, you need to. Bring a stool sample if possible.

Finally, it's rare for ball pythons but some are just plain nippy by nature. The vast majority grow out of it, though maybe this one will take longer, or maybe it will even stay nippy (probably not like it is now) for life. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
