It's a case of a kid doing everything right, yet the snake escaped and got burned and then the kid did everything right AGAIN, taking him to the vet immediately, getting meds to give him, treating it properly.. and yet the poor snake did not survive.

Just because a pet died doesn't ALWAYS mean that someone is automatically a bad owner or neglecting the animal. I think we all see SO many cases of neglect and bad care that we do jump to the conclusion that it must be yet another case of a bad uncaring owner.

In this case, the snake WAS under a vet care, and if the vet and the owner thought he had a good shot at recovering, who are we to judge elsewise just from a video we see on the net? Yes, it ended up dying, and yes perhaps some of us would have had him euthanized earlier, but that would be our decision for our pet.

I hope that he does find another snake quickly, because I honestly believe he does a great job overall. Ball pythons just sometimes escape. They don't always hide in a shoe. Sometimes they put themselves into a dangerous spot and get hurt. They have brains the size of a split pea, we gotta love them for their looks sometimes!

Very sad video and story indeed... It's good that the owner did everything he could to try and make it better for the snake. I agree that the snake should have been euthanized; you can see he is obviously in unbearable pain at the end when he is wailing about... poor little guy, rest in peace.

Re: This actually made me cry... graphic... warning.

Absolutely heartbreaking It's horrible that the beautiful spider went through so much pain, but I agree with Fenrir and dr. del that it definitely doesn't seem like a neglect case at all. I mean, sure, maybe the kid should have secured his tub better, but he has other bps that seem to be doing alright, and he did bring him to a vet and seemed to be very concerned about the snake's well-being.

I do also have to agree with some of the others that I think it's pretty awful that he videotaped the snake's last moments though. I never would have been able to do something like that. Not that it makes him a bad person or anything, but if you can see your animal is in that much pain and there's nothing more you can do for him, just have him humanely euthanized, don't record it and then put it up on youtube I don't know, it just kind of bothered me.

The whole situation doesn't seem to be the kid's fault though, since he really seemed to care and tried to do his best at least up until the end.

I will not pass judgement on this kid, looking at the video of the burn it didn't look too bad (I've seen worse).

He is a kid and as with most kids (and some adults), you have to be very specific with things, the vet should have taken this into consideration when he saw the animal, and had a follow appt. for a week to 10 days later to make sure the animal was healing properly.

    Wow,

Who is without fault, cast the first stone...

Seems to me that this kid actually is quite responsible for his age. He seems to love his snakes very much and from what is seen in the videos, he takes good care of them and seems to have done his homework.

So he had a snake escape. Seems to me this has happened to the best of us !! The snake escaped and got into a bad spot. Some escapees are never found. Some are found dead, some are found injured or so weak they pass away. This one got burned by crawling on a heat source.

I wouldn't have "taped" the last moments either, or shown it. But that alone doesn't make him a bad owner. I have seen far, far worse !!! All his snakes look well fed and well taken care of, aside from the burn. He even seems to care about possible laws regarding our hobby. Most people don't give a ding dong.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't see a case of neglect or abuse here...

As a side note: I didnt post this video to illicit a flame war or state that I felt anything neglectful was going on... simply that the video made me very sad and I wished that such a beautiful snake could have survived such unfair circumstances.
    Just wanted to clarify :/
RIP Sniper, sorry for the loss

Oh man that sucks. He did do everything he could, but some still don't make it. My spider escaped a couple weeks ago and I found him next to the flexwatt a shelf below. The dang thing! He didn't get burned luckily because there is very little room between the tubs, so he was against the back of the rack. It was just a dumb mistake of mine that he got out, forgot to put the 'safety' back on the shelf. Definitely something we can all attest to at some point I'm sure.
