NEW to bloods and NEED Help with INFO

What's going on everyone I'm new to the forum and I saw that there was a blood python section and it looked great...so I wanted to ask all the blood keepers what is actually the difference between Borneo short tails and malaysian bloods? I been reading up on them and doing alot of research and want to get a blood python but I'm not sure if there's a type of bloods that may be easier to work with more and I love the red on malaysians but i was looking at borneos and red bloods and black bloods aswell but it just seems like different pattern and color to me...they all look great aswell..I'm leaning more towards a Malaysian...any suggestions and info will be greatly appreciated and useful thanks

Borneo short tails are slightly smaller than Malaysian bloods, but really they're very similar in everything else. Personally I don't find the temperament differs with species but more the individual. You'll come across some that'll try to rip your throat out and then you'll get some that are kitten tame. It's just a matter of finding the right snake for you.

I'd say tubs are better than tanks because bloods are notorious for needing high humidity, and it'll be much easier to maintain that in a tub.

Not TOO high of humidity though!

    60% is ideal

Re: NEW to bloods and NEED Help with INFO

Great thanks for all the help...I actually have my retic in a tub and in the summer it's great but my room gets ultra cold in the winter and I love cold weather but my little ones don't so I been thinking about going back to tanks and putting some mulch or Eco earth in there with a good light bulb to keep them nice and hot along with the humidity cause I use some aluminum foil on the top of the lid so the humidity stays in and don't escape and I cut a hole on the cool side so it doesn't get too bad and the cool side stays cool...so I might do that first and if its not working I'll try a tub second...thanks for all the info keep it coming

I HAVE to use a tub to maintain humidity here in Minnesota for my blood (p. brongersmai), there's no way I'd be able to hit even 35% humidity regularly with a glass aquarium-type cage in MN winters.

I find that tubs hold heat better than glass as well.

However my favorite thing to house bloods are plastic commercial cages (such as animal plastics cages) that are 12'' tall, once a blood python is big enough for such a thing. I'm able to control humidity by switching out different size water sources (medium sized ceramic dishes all the way to good-sized tupperwares). As long as they aren't taller than 12'', they hold humidity very well.

Animal plastics? I'll have to look those up...I have my retic in a tub and a heat pad but it doesn't feel to hot to me in there so that's why I wanted to try a tank...even thought the temps read about 89 and my humidity gauge went out so I have to get another one later on today...what heat pads do you use to put on your tubs?

It shouldn't really feel hot to you, because your normal skin temperature is higher than the temperature needed. It should only really feel slightly warm to the touch if your gages are reading correctly.
