It sounds like your doing pretty well. If your ambient temps are about 75-80, your hot spot should be around 90. The best way to tell exactly what your hot spot is would be to invest in a temp gun. I highly recommend a temp gun, especially if you plan on adding to your collection in the future. The Bean Farm has some good ones. Also, I'm assuming your bp is in a tank? You mentioned a tank and a tub... If he's in a tank, make sure you keep an eye on the humidity. When I bought my first bp I had him in a tank, got all the fancy crap from the pet store, and soon switched to a tub set up with newspaper substraint and cereal boxes for hides lol.
