This is a conversation I love to have with "nonbelievers" and something I touch on in the programs that I do and it always gets a lot of questions.

My favorite example from my own collection is from my big female burmese. If I touch her when she's resting, she'll hiss at me, coil whatever part of her body that I'm touching back, and then (for lack of a better description) "shove" me. She'll continue to do this until she gets tired of it (or gets tired of me laughing at her) and then she'll move, but it's fun to watch.

Even among different species there's absolutely a difference.... like the OP said about the ball python, my Macklots are both VERY curious and seem to always be aware of what's going on. This may not be the right forum to say this in, but that's in stark contrast to 3 of my 4 balls (the spider being the exception) which basically do just sit there and ignore the world.

My BP also ALWAYS wants to move around and climb. Occasionally she'll chill around my neck for an hour or 2 but most of the time shes climbing behind my ears and going in my hair. Or she's on the key board, climbing on thumb taks in the walls, going inside desk drawers, and also smelling my dogs face. Amazingly, she never bites him. Even when he licks her on the face!

But my Cal King has mood swings all the time. One hour she could be sweet and gentle, and the other hour she turns into a spawn of satan. Biting everying that moves. Even when she's not hungry. My baby cornsnake usually just wants to be left alone in her cage. But she also loves to climb and move around (because thats what cornsnakes do).

    You are totally right.

    Of course they have personalities!

    Hungry, and Not Hungry .

At least my personality changes between these two points .

Haha that's funny. It's kinda the same thing with my normal male bp. I will have him out all day with me and once i put him back he starts climbing around in his cage and stopping frequently to stare at me. Sorta trying to beg me to get him out again

LOL... I feel the same way about my corns sometimes. One of them is constantly cruising her tub, acting like she wants to come out - but if I open the tub, she suddenly gets all shy and rattly. Then my granite corn Eddie is food-obsessed, and will track your finger like prey EVERY time he sees you - not to mention, he's the fastest nommer in the history of snakes. I swear!

Re: Snakes Dont Have Personalitites! Lie!

    i've only got 1 bp...for now, mwahahaha.
anyhow, she was quite feisty when frankie had her, from what he was saying she was striking all the time.
when i officially decided that it was her i wanted, he spent whatever time he could to just handle her to tame her down some. and i must say he did an awesome job. she has yet to strike at me, although yesterday she really gave my hand the "stink-eye" as i was taking temps in the terrarium.
she likes to think she's scary when she puffs herself up and hisses, lol. i would handle her just to show her she aint the bit scary she thinks she is but i think she's still digesting the rat she ate on sunday so...i'm not gonna really spend time holding her until friday-ish or maybe tomorrow, we'll see.

    my current collection

I'm thinking and thinking and I don't think I've ever heard anybody tell me they don't have personalities...

Even my snakephobic family thinks they're just plain evil - yeah, the devil personality. I mean, they're all Catholics - they think the snake gave Eve the apple that caused Adam and Eve to get kicked out of Eden. Definitely lots of personality there.

My bps have different personalities too. But, my favorite snake personality-wise is our hognose. He is a trip! Hissing like a cobra, rattling like a rattlesnake, striking with his snout... it is hilarious!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
