Please(yeah BG said it) read this

BG has been reading some of these posts and he has noticed something on some of them. People are saying their pet has died, yet they knew something was not right for some time.

There is a reason that BG is saying this. If you have a pet that doesn't seem to be acting like "normal".....what are you doing about it? Have you taken it to a Vet, have you asked questions on here what you should do? Are you really doing what's "right by" your pet?

BG wants you all to ask yourself this question? Would you be surprised if you went to check on your pet in question and you found it dead? If the answer to this question is..."no...I wouldn't be surprised"..... yet you have not seen a professional.....you are not doing the best you can for your pet.

Listen peeps. BG doesn't know the situation of why your animal may have died. He's not saying everyone is neglecting their animals. BG is only pointing this out so that it might actually "wake up" someone who has an animal that may need more help than they are providing.

Good luck to all of you....and please ask that question.

ps. Trust BG, it's not a good feeling when you know you could have done something more...or you did something wrong that may have caused the death of your pet. Procrastination can = DEATH.

I did the right thing, I called the vet and they said the black mark on my corn snakes belly was a common "sign" that shows up before they die

I told the vet about how he was acting, one day he was fine the next i wake up and he has a bulging black mark and sitting there limp with his tongue out

he hadnt eatten in a month and he was only 8 grams!

I take offense to your post. a lot of people do the right thing by consulting a vet ect, but they dont put it in thier post because they are greiving and extremely upset about the loss of a pet

they arent worried about pleasing people like you, they are only interested in sharing the memory of thier pet.

I know when I made my psot the first thing on my mind wasnt "oh i better say how i consulted a vet ect to please BG"

this post is deeply insulting, not only to me but to many other people who have lost thier pet unexpectedly

Not to mention, some pets just DIE. randomly. i have a friend whose BP died 1 year ago for NO REASON, hot spot was perfect, perfect humidity, perfect cold side, never missed a meal

he came home one day and he was dead.

Im done, all i gotta say though is that your post is extremely insulting

    edit:

I only read half of your post. then i read the other half and realized you arent saying any certain people are unresponsible.

I must say I over reacted

    sorry

I'm impressed. I agree completely with you BG.
I have come across a few keepers who straight up say "it's a snake i'm not taking to a vet, when it dies I'll get a new one". Like they are a toy, if it breaks they will get a new one.

I don't read this section so I can't say people here are doing this or not but in a general sense I agree. If a person is not keeping any animal to the best of it's needs, one does not need to own an animal.

How someone treats/keeps animals, speaks very highly on how a person keeps/treats him/herself and their belongings.

Wife and I spent 8k we didnt have to give my baby girl Marley the best last couple of months of her life. She was only 5 years old and had cancer (nerve sheath). It was out of my greed and love for her that I did not put her down when she was diagnosed.

It broke my heart that only after 4 months or having the tumor removed, it started coming back. I couldnt watch her go through the pain of surgery AGAIN. Well this time it was inoperable because it was in her hip socket. We spent another 1k to have her put down, cremated, red marble urn, and ink (some of her ashes are mixed in the ink). Again this is my greed of not wanting to let her go. This past thanksgiving was exactly 1 year to the date.
    I miss my baby!!!

The point to my, A.D.D., C.R.S., ramble is........................YOU CHOOSE what pets you have and it is your responsibility to take care of your animals better than you take care of yourself because it was NOT their choice to make your home theirs. Even our 15 year old son knows that their needs come before his and ours.

I can go on all day but for most it is a mute point because it is "JUST" a dog, or "JUST" a snake or "JUST" (insert your animal here) For those people, I hope that your kids learn from you. Then when you are old, and need assisted living your kid turns to you and says ya'll are "JUST" my parents.

Yeah you did "over react" just a leeetle, but that's OK. When given the chance to slam BG most people jump at the chance.

BG will say this however. Sometimes a month without food is too long before getting a check up. BG has no idea how your snake was acting so he can't say in your case.

Another problem is going to the right place to get that "check up"(some Vets are clueless and make things worse). Now that BG thinks about it, BG made a thread on this a couple years ago.

BG knows with snakes it's really hard to tell something is wrong, but usually the first indicator of a problem can be that they stop eating. With Ball Pythons though, this is what drives people nuts. They think something may be wrong, when all it really is that they're fasting. With other animals BG worries a lot quicker than he does with Ball Pythons.

BG is just trying to get people to think whether or not they're doing the best they can right now.....that's all.

ps. Hey Pit. Now that is true love of an animal. Unfortunately you couldn't save Marley.

Its not that I "jumped" at the chance to bash you or whatever, I simply misunderstood your post

I aplogize for that, I did really over react though, so I am sorry

Re: Please(yeah BG said it) read this

After consulting with other staff members, we've decided to move this thread. The Rainbow Bridge forum is strictly for the purpose of honoring, mourning, comforting those who've lost a beloved pet.

I DO agree with the sentiment of the thread 100%, and it is one of the more frustrating realities we have to deal with in a community like this. We love animals...and we want the best not just for OUR pets, but for all animals. This is why most of us are here...because it gives us a chance to help animals and their owners. But the reality is that there will always be people whose priorities don't match up with our own...those who think reptiles are merely "throw-away" pets....those who take on the responsibility of pet ownership without having the resources to follow through on proper care....etc etc etc.

We'll keep doing our best to help as many animals as we can. Anyone willing to learn can learn here. And of those who aren't willing to learn, occasionally, the heavy weight of community disapproval may cause them to change their ways.
