Re: Sexing Your Snake... via spurs.

There are videos online showing how to properly probe a ball python. If you honestly have some good common sense, and feel for smaller tools/instruments, you shouldn't have a problem probing a snake. I recommend beginning on adults with proper probing tools, of the appropriate sizes. Use KY and inserting the probe never involves force. Be patient and gentle. Obviously if you lack what I previously mentioned, than take it to a vet or breeder. Everybody has to learn somehow... watching a video is really no different than watching someone live, except for the fact they can't say "NO NOT LIKE THAT!"

I dont want to probe my snake until i know what im doing. Im not just going to go for it and see what happens lol, i was just wondering if was at all possible to tell from visual marks and differences on the out side of the snake its sex so i dont have to drive to london reptiles to get it looked at. There is a guy named Matt in the city but he closed he shop and i cant find him but hes in the classifieds on here, I was told he was one of the people in the area able to sex a snake properly.

Earlier today i met a gentleman at work who said he knew how to pop snakes and asked me to take out and adult to show him but i knew he was full fo crap because ive read in all 4 book its not good to try and pop and adlut injuries can happen and they have muscular control.

So i think im stuck till london or expo missassagua.

I pop adults all the time, and have never caused an injury. Every breeder I know pop adults all the time. It's how we verify whether an adult animal we are interested in or have purchased is indeed the sex it is represented as.

I don't even probe any longer. Popping is my primary way of sexing all my ball pythons. I don't carry a probe kit with me to the pet store or a show.

So the fact that this gentleman tells you he can pop an adult does NOT mean he's full of crap. There's a HUGE difference in what you read in a book and real world experience.
