Have you noticed though that the last couple of times this has happened more people have voiced more opinions?

Do you suppose some that are participating are unaware of this? That they aren't perhaps encouraging this additional participation by playing along? It's also interesting to see from so many other angles.

Oh well. Life in the internet.

Okay back to topic...

What we've done:

My children ages 9 and 7 does show-and-tell yearly at their school and at Cub Scouts to show them their snakes. It is their way of helping spread the knowledge that snakes are not "evil creatures".

My husband is a scout master and among all the other scout stuff he teaches the boys, he teaches them about reptiles, especially snakes.

Those are the things we've tried to accomplish for education. It's small things, but I'm sure it helps.

I've mentioned the conservation efforts at Nalusuan in a different BG thread. That's one big thing. And no, I'm not bragging. But, spreading the word on what's working at Nalusuan might give other people a "template" to use for other conservation efforts.

That's it for the animals. We do lots of people stuff too.

Now if everyone did "small things" Big Gunns is willing to bet there would be a lot less BIG PROBLEMS.

It's a start, but let's be honest. Are there any USARK members that don't have reptiles...or have family members with them? Everyone volunteers because it's in their best interest. BG thinks you can agree with that. It's the main reason star athletes/actors volunteer for a cause. They usually have someone in their family with cancer..autism...etc. It's great that they do, but they had to be affected personally before they did.

Me and my wife donated two of our Flyers games to our church for 2 families that couldn't afford to go to a game.

I have to admitt I do not do enough at all. I get so caught up in what I am doing.... bad excuse I know...

I do however volunteer at a local no kill shelter, we also donate everything to them as well. I am also getting ready to appy at a local wildlife sanctuary. I do volunteer work at my sons school and of course .....I do allot w my reptiles as far as teaching kids about responsible pet ownership ...and reptiles in general. I have actually been approached by our local retirement home to do a couple of shows.....lol. Thought that was pretty funny!! Does it count if I have taken in my friends 17 yr. old so that he could finish school....lol. Kidding...but I do think making a difference in a childs life can change their life forever.

It doesn't really matter what your "cause" is, as long as you're helping someone or something. It also doesn't really matter, and I'm speaking to those that claim BG is an attention seeker for going to Japan now, what your motives are as long as you are still causing good to happen in the world. Whether someone does it to feel good through the press they receive or to feel good through that warm fuzzy feeling they get, the result is still the same. They still feel good about themselves and they still did something positive. There's nothing inherently wrong about that. No one can force another to give them "good press." That is done willingly by the second party.

Unfortunately, I don't have any reptile/mammal rescue experience but I have done some good for my fellow man.

I have worked the last six years on a software development team that has written software which I have been told has saved lives. I volunteered development hours for the Katrina aftermath as well as the BP oil spill. I have received a medal for my work an award winning software which our soldiers use in the middle east.

I've wanted to volunteer for a local wildlife "sanctuary" but they have some bizarre requirements and classes which I can't fit into my normal schedule. They seem to target people that have nothing to do during normal business hours and don't have the same program for weekend only people. Would be nice if there was a close herp society. I'd like to start one, but I'd need the help and backing of some locals.
