    What should I go with...?

I've been debating on getting a pair of het pieds but almost debating on finding a pied male and a het pied female instead to get better odds for a pied. I still need to build a rack plus an incubator and food for them. Which would you guys do, go for the het pair or go for a pied male and het female?

Buy a het pied female now and raise her up. When she gets closer to breeding size you can look at getting a male pied to pair her with. That way you don't have to pay to feed a male for 2 years and prices on males will be probably half of what they are today.

    this ^

also - a visual x het pairing means you won't be producing any 66% poss hets (from het x het, and not knowing what is what) - they'll all be 100%

That's what I was thinking too, any het that I bought I'm hoping to get from a pied x pied cross just to have the knowledge that it's 100% het though I know you can tell the differences between them if you know what to look for. My hubby still thinks I'm crazy for wanting more balls aside from the 2 I already have. But they're cute little buggers. lol

If I had the money I'd just buy a pair of pieds but that's way, way [I]way[\I] out of my price range right now. I've got a small online job that I'm trying to save up enough to help with a few bills that are due soon and save for stuff needed for breeding pieds but bills come first before new "toys".

I'd get the het Pied female now, then the Piebald male later for sure if those are your only two options..

BUT if you were thinking of getting a visual male anyway, I'd take that money and get a Piebald female. Then in a couple years get a co-dom het Pied...

Re: What should I go with...?

Hi everyone I was planning on getting a 1.2 100% HET pied group. What would the likey hood be of getting pieds from this group. I thought that they being 100 het pied I'd be able to produce pieds or is it a chance I'd be taking. Sorry new to the hobby and want to make sure befor I purchase. Thanks for the advise. Bruce
