Built a rat rack!

Here are two of the ones I made. Making more tonight hopefully. But anyways I fill my food hoppers once a week and it seems to last a tad longer then a week.


The second one also has a water system now this picture is old.

thats an awful lot of space under the bottom tub, any reason you left so much room? my bottom tub sits pretty much on the ground

It will be going in the basement and I thought the farther off the cool floor the better. And one less thing to worry about if the basement ever floods.

Nice! I really like the style of the top one! If I ever need more, I can just add on.

Yep which is exactly what I am doing with the new ones I am making sometimes this week! Works out great!

That looks good to me.

When I build mine I have been leaving less space between each level. Its not really necessary to leave that much space, and I feel that the rats feel more secure when no one can look in from above.

I also HIGHLY recommend the diagonal side support. It makes a HUGE difference.

Mortar mixing tubs. They sell them at Lowe's/Home Depot for about $5.

How come everyone I see that builds a rack their cuts seem perfect and their wood is straight as an arrow but when I go to buy wood all my 2x2s are more crooked than an S and even using a miter saw I can't seem to get a straight cut? I must just suck as a carpenter

I just finished building the "rack" part of my rat rack. I have to redo the spacing between the screen and the guide rails (1 inch was too big, so I have to take them all off and move them up 1/4") so I didn't post pics yet.

But, when I took the first few pics, it looked really "professional". But when I look at it closely, you can see where my screws were showing a bit because I cut the wood too short so they don't line up...

But, I am really proud to say that I built the thing, then stood it up, and all the 4 support posts all stood on the ground without a wobble! That made me super proud of myself...
