Red spot on ball python's chin?

Hey all, long story short I pulled my '10 mojave out today for cage cleaning/water change/checkup etc. and noticed he had a funny red spot on his chin. He's really shy so it was really hard to get a picture but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before and if it's harmful? It looks bloody.

He ate a small adult mouse three days ago, his warm side is kept at 91, and he always has access to fresh water. Sadly he had a bad shed a week or so ago and has retained eyecaps that we're working on. His mouth looks fine other than the red spot. I don't know if a bad shed could have caused this? Mouth rot? Mites? He's only ever been fed f/t so I know it's not a bite. I really have no clue or experience with this. He eats fine and I've never had a problem with him. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Pics are worth a thousand words . . .

Re: Red spot on ball python's chin?

From looking at the pictures I am going to have to say it looks like he could have possibly rubbed himself raw. Besides the retained eye caps how was his shed overall? Is there tape or anything sharp in his enclosure? I would put him on newspaper for right now you should clean the wound, apply some Neosporin (w/o the pain medication) and keep a eye on it. Hope this help.

This is the song that never ends,
Yes, it goes on and on, my friends.
    Some people started singing it,
    Not knowing what it was,
and they'll continue singing it forever just because...

No it's a definite cut or rub mark.

There were no other issues with the shed. His hides are kind of rough, that's all I can figure. They're supposed to look like "natural rock"
I keep my snakes on paper towels.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll do what you said and keep a sharp eye on him. It'd help if he actually let me see his face when I take him out.

    It's a feeding injury.

If you feed him live prey he may have been bitten or scratched. If not then maybe he rubbed himself raw on something in the enclosure.
