    Have you ever gotten stitches?

I have gotten 5 stitches on different parts of my body. 2 on my hand and 3 on my forehead. I just got some recently (a day ago) due to slicing my thumb open while carving a peice of wood. I have 6 blue stiches on top of my left thumb. My left hand is all jacked, with scars of past stitches. My stitches are airing out as I type this.

    Stitches what a great topic.

Three stitches left pinkey 3 weeks ago got hit by flying metal. 6 stitches inside my lower lip, bit by a dog, the four legged kind. Finaly My best one 34 stitche left chest, 9 years old and bit by a muele tore the left pectoral muscle almost off and removed a lot of skin. I wish I had pictures of some of those especialy my arm. I don't know how many total, but quite a few.

When I was about three, I fell and split my forehead open on the concrete step leading in the front door of my house, I don't remember those.

At nine, I fell against the coffee table in the living room and split the side of my head open, I do remember those. I thought it was quite cool to watch the doctor sewing me up with a needle and thread, just like my mommy sewed clothes!

At 25 I had breast reduction surgery, got some nasty scars from that, it never did heal right.

4 years ago, I cut the end of my left thumb almost completely off. I was chopping basil at work, and somehow my thumb got in the way. The doctor at the Urgent Care wanted to give me 4 shots to numb it, then put in a single stitch. I told him " Why would I let you stick me five times when once will do ?" So I got that stitch without anesthetic. The nurse had to leave the room when he did it. Then he decided one wasn't enough, and asked again if I wanted a shot. I just looked at him and said " Give me the other stitch so I can go home. " So I got two stitches in that thumb without being numbed. Didn't hurt that much, but boy the nurse I thought sure was going to pass out.

Three years ago, I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the left side of my nose, took 3 and 1/2 hours of surgery to get it all and perform a reconstruction from a piece of my neck skin. The one on my nose healed beautifully, you can barely see it. The hack job the doc did on my neck on the other hand, left a terrible scar.

18 months ago, I fell while riding my bicycle with my kids and broke my left wrist. Pretty badly too, the doctor told me I came close to amputating my left hand at the wrist, I hit so hard. I have a 3 1/2 inch steel plate and 8 screws in the wrist now. That was the weirdest stitches I ever received, doc sewed me up with wire! He told me it leaves a smaller scar, and he was right, it's all but invisible. The doctor told me my body just kind of assimilated the plate like it had always been there. He still can't believe how fast it healed. Originally he thought I'd be in a cast for at least 8 weeks, followed by 8 months of physical therapy, and told be I'd probably only regain about 70% use of that wrist. I was only in a cast for 2 weeks, had a month of physical therapy, and I can use that wrist as good as ever.

So yeah, I've had my fair share of them

Re: Have you ever gotten stitches?

I can't tell you how many stiches I've had over my lifetime. I've also had my share of staples too.

2 sinus operations where they cut my gum line and pulled my face from my skull.
3 knee operations with a knee replacement coming over the winter.
    1 gall bladder operation.
5 or 6 cuts and punctures which required stitches.
1 open heart surgery with complications.

Oh, I did forget 1 sliced leg when I was 3 years old. Scar is about 4 inches long, so I don't know how many stitches that would have been.

Re: Have you ever gotten stitches?

My very first memory is of getting stitches. I was three years old, in the bathtub...my Mom sitting near by. I vaguely remember that scene, but don't remember the injury itself. Apparently I started jumping up and down and slipped and cracked my chin on the edge of the tub, splitting it open. What I do remember as clearly as any childhood memory is of laying on a hard, cold table...a really bright light above me making everything else in the background behind it look black...and a pair of green-gloved hands coming toward my face with what looked to my 3-year-old-eyes like a HUGE curved shiny silver needle.

What a way to start your life-time scrapbook of memories, eh?
