Re: Does anyone take their BP for car rides?

i take my retic with me sometimes when I want to hang out at this pet sanctuary/shopping complex but she always ride in her "car case"; i just saw this show in discovery channel where a man had the entire dashboard+steering wheel removed coz his pet boa went inside. the boa was retrieved safely but imagine the fuss putting those car parts all back. hehehe

My wife thought it was pretty funny. i kept her on me on the way home but she wanted to go in the car seat again. My mother didn't really know what to think of the snake. She kept wanting to feed it tomatoes and chicken. I told her that it wouldn't work. It took a little while but got my mother to hold her.

Re: Does anyone take their BP for car rides?

I don't take any of my snakes for car rides "just because". The only time they are in the car, is for a particular purpose - going to a snake show to be displayed or to the veterinarian, and that's it.

Never, EVER would they be allowed to be loose in the car, not safely secured in a snake bag.

Other than that - no - the snakes don't enjoy it, and I'd rather them be safe and secure in their enclosures, rather than taking them for meaningless (for them) car rides.

I've taken one of my ball pythons with me to the pet store (20 mins one way) and it worked out fine, he just hung out around my neck the whole time and was a hit at the pet store; every person in there was intrigued that I had a snake around my neck.

Re: Does anyone take their BP for car rides?

Hm, just wondering...but is anyone concerned about their snake picking up a fatal disease in a petshop ??

Surely, if a snake is taken along to a petshop that sells reptiles, it will be admired and probably touched by employees. The employees that handle the other reptiles in the petshop. Who gets their reptiles from all kinds of sources and there may very well be some that could have infectious diseases. IBD comes to mind.

It would be heartbreaking to me to loose a snake, or worse my whole collection, due to taking risks like that. After talking to someone who lost his entire collection and went through a lot of heartbreak, I can see why many people keep a "closed" collection and have very strict quarantine in place...

Also, I don't take my snakes to places where they come close to other people that may have a snake phobia. I did take them to educational shows and planned events, though.

The thought of trying to clean snake poo and pee off my car seats is enough to keep me from taking them for rides...

Wow Robin, am I glad that at least ONE member piped in here that doens't have his head where the sun doesn't shine.
At first I thought this was a funny thread, maybe a joke, but the more I read, I stopped laughing and just felt sad that there are so many irresponsible, witless snake keepers on this forum.

Re: Does anyone take their BP for car rides?

It was supposed to be a funny thread. I took my snake for a 5 min (if that) ride to my mothers house because she wanted to see the snake, and i had to go over there anyway. It wasn't just for the sake of going for a car ride and it was a short trip. the snake crawled into my daughters car seat i found it kinda funny. Its the first time i have brought her for a ride and i kinda regret posting it now after a good bashing.
