I assume retained eye caps are visible straight away ..

Retained eye caps are pretty easy to see right away.

What do you measure humidity with?

I go by one thing, do my snakes shed in basically one piece, if not then I have a low humidity issue and I fix it.
I had a couple bad sheds a few months back so I taped over a few holes and the next sheds were perfect one piece sheds.(I use tubs only)
I'm not saying you kept the snake in low humidity on purpose, just that the eye shows dehydration and you should up your humidity to help it heal.

Some digital hygrometer ... taping up the holes is a good idea, I got quite a few in there.

The tub has holes on the left and right and a row on the top including above the waterbowl.

One heatmat is underneath the waterbowl to keep the cold side at around 80F. I slightly increased the temps underneath the waterbowl to 84F to force evaporating.

I closed half the row of holes on the top and above the bowl and add moss to her hide.

Humidity is currently at around 65% just outside her hide. That should hopefull do it

I'd block all holes on top, not needed and those will let out more heat and humidity than the side holes.
Your humidity level is really good now, at that % you should see a nice shed next time.

Blocking all holes brought the humidity up to over 90%

When I lifted the hide there was water running down the sides (from the moss I suppose).

Don't fancy her getting RI ;-)

While we at it, a few people saying there is risk of RI if the humidity is too high. What is actually 'too' high?

No holes up top, holes in the side.
90% is too high IMO, try holes in the sides till it gets down to 70 or so and you'll have perfect sheds.

I believe RI is more probable with low temps and low humidity.

This is what I mean. As soon as I leave the holes on the sides only and tape the one on top I get around 90% humidity. I hope my viv builder gets his backside in gear :-(
