Well, I prefer a light breading on my chicken - cornflake or parmesan crust is always good. Sorry, I couldn't resist!

But seriously, what do you want to know about breeding? I'm just hatching out my first clutch, and it was quite the learning experience... really glad I started with only one clutch, since it was more time consuming (mostly in my head) than expected. But I had a great experience overall, and can't wait to do it again! I think you don't fully learn the process until you go through it, so now I feel MUCH more confident for the next season.

As of now, I'm planning to attempt the following next year... Albinos (het x het pairing), Mojaves, Black Pastels, Spiders and/or Pastels. Unfortunately I'm too male-heavy right now, so I'll have to get another adult female or two to make all of those! I'm also thinking about pairing up my Spotted Pythons next month, and still on the fence over whether to breed my corn snakes - I have 2 females (Amels) & 2 males (Ghost & Amel/RO) who are more than ready.

    I prefer panko.

Seriously. Research, research, and research some more. Dig through the websites and read breeder blogs. Visit shows and forums. Pick breeder brains. It's amazing how many people are out there calling themselves "breeders" that can't tell the difference between a normal and a simple pastel.

The snakes will always be there, use this time to be totally prepared.

Sorry long day but whats panko .So if you cant tell a pastel from a normal your not a real breeder? In my opinion a breeder is one that has learned everything about his reptiles needs. Then goes on to improve his knowledge by breeding his animals.Thats what a breeder is to me .

    Re: breeding

In my opinion, no. Not if you're working with morphs. But hey, at least I offered some solid advice with my opinion.

Actually a breeder has more connotation than that. Usually you only call yourself a breeder if you intend to sell some or all of the offspring. If you're just putting snakes together for your own personal knowlege/hobby, then you're just a hobbyist.

So, then for a breeder - yeah, it's kinda suspect when a breeder can't tell a normal from a pastel because it is easy to sell off a normal as a pastel to an unsuspecting buyer.

    Hope this helps.

BP owner since Oct 2008, so yeah, I'm no expert.
    0.1.0 pastel bp
    1.0.0 spider bp
    0.1.0 albino bp
    1.0.0 bumblebee bp
    1.0.0 yellowbelly bp
    0.0.1 normal bp
    1.0.0 normal western hognose

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

    sorry about the spelling......
but theres a lot about clutches going bad or pairing going bad is it that common or is it more of people just post more about the bad so people know? i own 16 ball pythons now, a king snake and a corn. only one bp and the king are breed-able right now but hopefully ill have 2 or three of the others up to size by next season. i guess the question is more about the difficulty and the risk (granted theres a risk to everything) and yes the breeding would be to sell a few off
