Re: Extremely Disturbing.
i find it weird, but not disturbing. it doesn't bother me either. taxidermy has always been strange to me. it's just not for me. i had no idea people would want to keep a normal looking ball - it would be cool if it was a morph

Re: Extremely Disturbing.
I see no problem with it. Many people use the snakeskins, and if they snake died, why not use it? Maybe a stuffed and therefor harmless and nonthreatening version of a snake will make someone appreciate the live ones for their beauty?
I've seen people skeletonize a dead snake to mount the bones for display and I find that gorgeous. I was going to send my adult red tegu's body to do that, but the guy in question lost his beetle colony.
I don't want an taxidermy critters in my house, but they don't bug me, and don't offend me. Heck, I once groomed a taxidermied poodle. And now THAT was weird. Talk about pressure! I couldn't say "Well, the hair will grow back over that mistake..."

Doesn't disturb me, I think it's kind of cool.
There's a ball python you can keep out in the open on display, since the living ones are crammed into their hides.
I also like the skeleton mounts, they look extremely nifty.
Critters die for various reasons, I see no reason not to do something like this with the remains.

Re: Extremely Disturbing.
O.o If you think that's "cruel", you're going to hate me. I have a tanned goat skin on my dresser, three "raw" skins in the freezer, and..Shoot...five goat skulls in a building, plus the one in the freezer.
Taxidermy is a hobby no different than snake keeping. Yes, you don't know if the taxidermied animal was killed for its skin, or it died of natural causes. Just like you don't know if a snake was power fed as a baby or if its been exposed to boas. You have to go on the word of the seller.

There's this exhibition in town right now called "Bodies".
It's preserved, skinned and partially dissected humans and human body parts on display.
Pretty cool.

Re: Extremely Disturbing.
Why?
They're dead, it's not like they care anymore.

Use spell check please.
There's nothing wrong with taxidermy. Taxidermy gives a use for something that would otherwise go to waste.

I saw that in California a few years back. Did you see it? If so, did they have the giraffe still?

Re: Extremely Disturbing.
We haven't seen it yet, but plan to, as soon as we can grab tickets. Hope to catch it before it leaves.
