LOL I am a scientist, but I am a Chemist. I have a main background in Biology, however, and really would love to learn more about it too...

No but I'll check a couple of my snakes and take pictures of it if 1 of them has it.

I remember this happening to my lesser, and they went away. I remember because I freaked out a little when I saw them, and then forgot about them, remembered some time down the road, and they were gone.

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

I ask, because almost every hatchling that I have in my ARS racks have this (yet the ones in my homemade melamine racks do not). My theory on it is that the snakes rub on the holes on the metal that forms the top of the tub in a pre-fabbed metal type rack. I have often opened tubs, and found the snakes with their heads up to the top of the tub as if testing the air coming through the holes. I have found that once I move an animal out of those type racks, and put them in CB-70's (homemade racks again that do not have metal tops), that they marks go away.

Let me know if you need pics, and I can take some pics of that occuranc on some of my animals.

    Hope that helps,

I have the same thing on my cinny het clown It was explained to me(from breeder) as it happens mainly to younger snakes from trying to get out of certain rack systems they rub their bottom jaw on the tubs causing these holes. When I 1st noticed the holes I went to my vet and he also said he had seen holes like this before on other juv balls and it doesn't usually affect the animal and will slowly disappear over time and sheds. It has been a year and my guy still has them but are much smaller and appear to be healing up.

I have a cinnamon female with a similar looking chin. I have no clue what it is though. She eats fine, moves fine, lives fine. I say... no worries. If an issue comes up I'll be sure to have her in a vets office, but it doesn't seem to affect her everyday life, so it doesn't bother me either.

I had mine out earlier today while checking water and I swear one of mine has those too. Of course I didn't know that wasn't normal, so tomorrow I'm going to have to go through them and see who had it. I think it was my pastel or super pastel since they normally get the most attention.

Re: Have you ever seen this before???

I got myself a small/medium tub freedom breeder rack about a year ago and shortly after moving the babies and juvies in there I noticed a couple of them had the same symmetrical spots. I would see them all upside down rubbing their chins, so that seemed like the cause. As they grew and shed and some moved up to larger tubs, the "holes" seem to go away. They have not seemed to affect any of my snakes negatively, I would say about 7 out of 25 snakes in that rack have them.
