Re: Have you ever seen this before???

I know this is an old topic, but I remembered reading it when it first started and decided to look over my small collection of 9... Only 1 of them has it, my male 100% het SK Axanthic. Here's a pic

Some of my other balls have very faint marks where they would be, but nothing considerable. The rest are normal looking. Just pretty interesting

Cool! Heather, tell us if she still has them in a few months, will you? abi21491, how old is the SK axanthic?

I think they could very well be a buried gene for heat pits in a different spot. Carpets and green tree pythons have them on their back bottom lips as well as their front upper lips:

I also think you should folks should combine your slightly mutated snakes and see if you can get real heat pits. AND THEN WRITE IT UP FOR SCIENCE.

My boy is about 300 grams, he's a mid 09. I've noticed all of my ball pythons have heat pits on their lower lips at the corner of their mouths. Do all of them have that typically? I wonder if it's genetic as well, pretty cool

She still has them as of this day. I'll take updated pics when I get home.

I believe it's caused when the snake is attempting to escape. Some of my snakes have similar marks, it's caused by them squeezing their heads through the lip of their tubs attempting to get out.

Hang on while I pry some mouths open... yes, corner of the mouth, very small. Mostly hidden by the folds of skin around the mouth--I don't know if they actually can use those for anything much.

And my '07 het lavender boy has the dents on his chin, but they're very shallow. Nothing as blatant as the snakes up-thread.

Not anymore she's not. She's the new "Heat Pit" morph. Guaranteed to find and eat a f/t room temperature rat. Coming soon to Kingsnake for 25k a pair.

They do look like heat pits and they're in the same spot on both sides. BG didn't read the whole thread(lazy), but what is the full history of this snake. Maybe this is evolution. Who knows? All snakes from this part of Africa may be developing them for some odd reason.

To be honest girl. You should call some scientists(geeks) that study this kind of thing. BG is sure they'd be interested.
