I may be wrong but line identification is important if there is a difference. Some recessive lines of the same mutation are not compatible so knowing what line you have is important. Other times like the pastels line identifies a particular characteristic of the animal i.e. lemon pastel for its high yellow look. Other wise it just allows you to take credit for owning an original from Africa. This might be important if someone wants fresh genes for their breeding. Not the ones passed from animal to animal here in the U.S.
