Re: To cut or not to cut?

From what i've seen this year so far more problems seem to have been caused by cutting than solved. All 9 of my first clutch pipped by themselves on day 57 to 59 except for one which still hadn't pipped by day 59 so I cut a tiny slit in the top and within a day it had poked it's head out.

I think it would be good practice to at least wait until the first one has pipped and then wait 24 hours before cutting any that haven't and also only make tiny slits, not hack away at the egg like i seem to be seeing a lot of. Just my personal opinion there.

    I agree!

I am never cutting eggs until one pips, or if its past day 60.

Never is a long long time.

We had one egg this year that was tiny and a boob egg.
day 51 we cut because as we figured before cutting, the snake was filling out the inside of the egg so much it probably couldn't have got out on it's own.
The yolk was 100% absorbed before we cut the egg and the snake came out the next day on it's own in perfect condition.
I seriously doubt we would have a healthy happy snake if we hadn't cut that egg.

I'm all for letting the first one pip, but I never say never

Re: To cut or not to cut?

I put a tiny slit in one of last years 18 eggs and I really didn't need to as it made another slit on it's own. I was just worried as it took 3 days longer than the first one. All other pipped naturally. It's so much more rewarding seeing them do it themselves and as someone has already said, you're more likely to cause a problem than solve one.

Once you cut, there's no going back.

Once you cut, there's no going back, so proceed with caution.
