    Heating a Ball python room

    Hi Guys,

I am soon going to be converting one of my parents garage's into my Ball Python room, parents don't want the snakes inside

Anyway- I need to find a way to heat it I can give dimensions tomorrow morning. Off course the snakes, will have heating pads but we live by a river and it gets cold at night.

I was thinking if I should either, go with two 250w Exo Terra heat wave lamps or two 150w heat glo lights (infra red ones). Or just have a heater normal cheapy, and hook it up to a thermometer and when it gets to hot cuts out and visa versa.

    Thanks,

    David

Re: Heating a Ball python room

I would try to heat the whole garage. I have a stand up oscalation heater I used for my living room this winter. It has a remote, and built in thermostat. I love it, and it was only like $75. I also have an oil filled heater that was only $30, but you might need two depending on the size of the garage.

You can use heat lamps, but if there is a draft or any type of air movement, the heat lamps might not work. Good luck.

Yeah best thing to do is have the garage insulated if its not already and heat the garage to 80*.

What kind of garage is this? Is it connected to the house, or some old decrepit thing lol? Not trying to sound insulting just trying to see what your working with. I can see a garage being hard to keep warm depending on conditions.

I would insulate/vapor barrier/Sheetrock the walls and celing, then get an oil filled heater and a ranco thermostat..to get the ambient temps to around 80 and by using individual heat per enclosure have your hot spot also....

Also you might want to consider insulating the garage door as well. You can order kits online from Home Depot or you can just go to someplace like Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a couple of sheets of polystyrene insulation, some sheetmetal screws and some washers to go under the heads of the screws. Then all you have to do is cut the insulation to fit between the door hinges and screw it on...

I use a space heater with a "dumb" temperature control. I don't remember the brand off hand, but I got it at wal-mart and it works great. I keep an accurite on the middle of my racking and it's always 78-81. Not sure if you'll have the same results in a garage, but I'd take the space heater route over lamps.

Re: Heating a Ball python room

I am in the process of walling 1/4 my garage. It will cost about $30 for the 2x4's, $30-40 for the sheetrock, $50 for a door, and $40 for the insullation. Since we keep our laundry room door shut at all times, I am running the AC/HEAT duct from there to this small room I am building. The room is about 10' x 12' so we are looking at 100-120 sq feet. I live in Dallas so the weather is hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. The AC vent should bring the temps to at least 80-83 in the summer and 70 in the winter. My thermostat and heat tape should take care of keeping the temps where they should be. I am only worried that the room will stay at 70 in the winter and the ambient temps will be too low.

This is what I did to regulate temp in the garage a little easier.
