- Get some sort of background or black poster board to cover three sides of your tank, ball pythons like their privacy and to feel secure. He may get stressed because of the open sides and back. You can use foam core/poster board or go to a petstore and buy an aquarium background. The foam core will insulate it tho.
- you may also want to get some plants or something to fill up some space to make him feel more secure. They don't need a ton of open space as they usually are in their hides anyways.
- Make sure you have your thermometer probes in the right places, you want to measure the cool side and the hot side, also ambient temp and humidity. The hot side probe especially should be between the glass and the substrate so you know the hottest point your snake can get to. (assuming you have a uth)
- are the hides identical? I can't really tell from the pic. If not, it is preferred that they are both the same that way your snake doesnt have to sacrifice its temperature to be in its favorite hide.

I think thats it for now! I started out with a very similar setup and then through reading the threads on here realized I needed to fix a few things, so I thought i'd give you some advice to start off! Enjoy your new baby!

Thanks for the points i knew about the board around the other 3 sides just haven't gotten that far into the setup yet so haven't picked any up and haven't found any plants and sticks that aren't to big for the tank in general lol also yes HER hides are identical so nope she's not sacrificing i have a UTH but i am not using it yet i don't have the thermostat to keep it from getting to hot so until then its there but not in use i have temp probes on both sides the cords r just ran to the back * have a walking baby gets into everything and i don't like clutter.... soooo i secured them to the edges also a humidity thing in there as well thank you for the concern in her tank much appreciated
