How many meals before selling?
How many meals do you get in your hatchlings before you feel confident to sell?

I like to have 3 to 4 strong feedings before I sell my babies.

Enough to know that they're feeding regularly, at least 3 is good, more is better.

We agree and do the same here however I have seen more and more people selling animals straight out of the egg even before their first shed . I don't get just don't get it. To me it seems they are trying to dump the animals as soon as possible with no regard for their customer or the health of the animal.
Has anyone else noticed this trend?

I have talked to one breeder at a show who told me that they had one feeding! I did not buy as I thought that was too early and another breeder at the last show had two spiders that he said was hatched 5 days ago and have not shed yet! I will not but an animal that is under a month old and has been feeding regularly! The consumers need to stop supporting people like this. They are just for the money!!!

Re: How many meals before selling?
If I'm selling at a show to someone I don't know. I don't sell until one of my hatchlings has at least 5 feedings and showing a strong feeding response.
but
I'm selling 5 albinos right out of the egg to another breeder that I know.

Re: How many meals before selling?
I use feeding response to judge more.... local I would do 3 solid feedings shipping I would go 5.... Local people have access to me if there are problems

To me deals like this are a horse of a different color. I have sold one animal out of the egg to a local person with a lot of experience that wanted to get the animal started themselves. In turn I purchased a pair of mojaves from another breeder straight out of the egg but I knew the breeder and was comfortable with the risk in doing this.
I was just referring to sales at shows to Joeblow the general customer, and online sales. It just seems that the standard for well started cb hatchlings is falling based on getting the sales as quickly as they can. Which to me is sad.
