first snake first escape
I had my BP for about two weeks and it already got loose. I had the lid duct taped closed. we went on vacation for a couple days and when we got home poof no snake. it only took me a min to find him, he was chilling on the bookshelve just hanging out. but then when i go to grab him he takes off like a mad man went into the damn heat radiator on the floor i was able to grab his tail and hold him until he backed out. it was scarry i thought he was a goner. good thing he made it out without a scratch. so now that lid is really secure so that wont happen any more. i read that the are escape artist but i guess i didnt know how strong they are.

Bungee cords are where it's at. Can't go wrong there.

Re: first snake first escape
If you are using a standard aquarium for housing your ball python, I would suggest using an escape proof lid along with some security clamps.
Below is an example of the lid:

And the clamps can be found here:

1.1 Bumblebees
1.2 Butters
0.1 Mojave
0.1 Pastel
1.0 Spider
1.2 Normals

I have a 28qt tub and I use four bungee cords. Two across the width and two across the length. It seems tight, but I am new to snakes.
Is there any way she can get out?

Mozbink,
I think you should be good. I had a ball that I kept in a sterilite container for a while and I only used 2 length wise. Now I have a 20 gallon glass on a wire shelving unit which works beautifully because I just hook them on to the shelf itself.
It all depends on the size and elasticity of the bungee, really. However, with 4, you are better safe than sorry.

Re: first snake first escape
Yeah, I knew a guy who used 40 lbs of books on his tank. I told him he needed to lock the lid down, but he didn't listen. Not until the snake escaped. They are very strong indeed. We found him safe and sound on a shelf. They are little tricksters.
Glad he's ok

You can put all the weight you want on top, but if it isn't balanced right and the weight isn't evenly distributed over the perimeter of the lid, the snake will be able to lift it the few inches it needs to get out.
