Breathing Problems?

Hey guys.. hope you could help me out here.. i have a female pewter about 900 grams.. just recently when i take her out to chill with me i hear her make a slight weezing sound.. its not constant but she does do it more than a few times.. should i be concerned? i know that it could be a sign of respiratory problems.. what you think?

Usually funny sounds coming from your snake can be a sign of RI, I'd keep an eye on it, and if you keep hearing noises, a vet visit may be in order.

that sucks.. i dont get it though.. they have great living conditions .. they all eat well and are very strong and active?

do you think it would be when i spray down the cage for humidity that the sudden spike would have an effect? i keep them in pvcx cages..

She could just be forcing air out of her lungs to make herself sound big and bad. If you only hear it when you are holding her and not in her cage, she's probably just trying to get you to leave her alone by huffing.

No, I think they have to be exposed to the high humidity for long periods of time. What do you keep your humidity at?

Wheezing noises doesn't always mean the snake has an RI. If the snake has recently shed, is about to shed, or had a bad shed last time around there can be some stuck shed in the nostril making sounds. Sometimes whistling noise, sometimes a wheezing noise.

Keep an eye on it. If it doesn't go away in the next week or so, take the animal to the vet.

Has she just shed? Our female ball had a bad shed right before we got her and it turned out that a piece of shed got stuck in her nose so she would make a whistle when she was out. We couldn't really hear it when she was in her tank and it was only occasional when we had her out. Our male ball whistles when he breathes when he wants to be put back in his tank.

But it can also be a sign of a RI so keep an eye on it and if it gets worse then take her to a vet. Look for other signs of an RI like gurgling when she breathes and when it gets more advanced, open mouth breathing, a lot of mucous and snot bubbles coming out of the nose. If you notice any of the later symptoms, take her to the vet immediately.

thanks guys.. its different from their 'dont touch me' noise they make.. lol.. i think its funny when they do that.. i keep the humidity usually in the high 50's or 60's.. but because i have a florescent light bulb in there for ambient heat, it sucks alot of the humidity.. so i spray it alot which usually spikes it to the high 70's..

but having shed in their nose is one i never thought of.. seems possible
