My previous post was edited by the administration because I mentioned that I was trading my BRB.....I apologize if this was received as some sort of "advertising of a sale" according to the administration. I will no longer post on Ball-Pythons.net until the administration apologizes for editing my post. Way to chase away another member that has only contributed positive information and in no way has ever told anyone that they are "wrong".

I support the freedom of speech and me stating that I love my BRB but I am looking to trade it does not reflect a violation of any rules and was a statement of fact. because of this warning I received from Ball-Pythons.net I have removed my post in the trade/sale/wanted section and will never conduct business of snakes throuch Ball-Pythons.net. I feel offended that Ball-Pythons.net thinks that this is a violation of the forum rules. Maybe they should actually have my post open next to the rules like I did and see the huge stretch they made to edit my post.

do u have vines or trees in ur enclosure? i ask because mine spends almost as much time in the air as it does on the ground

4.5 feet long is a small male, 7 feet is a big female. More common is the 5-6 foot range for both, with males typically slightly smaller than females. They're fairly slender for their length, so a 5-6 foot rainbow probably only weighs a few pounds.

The problem with forums is that they make exceptions in the "rules" if they are "rules" then they should apply to everyone. I apologized for my slip. Seems like maybe you should do the same.



ON TO THE TOPIC AT HAND

I think there are more solutions for caging the animals. I have mine (about 8 months old) in a 20 gallon long tank but she has also been in a 2 foot by 2 foot cube tank...Mine had no real arboreal behaviors so I switched her to a 20 gallon long tank.

The tank has 3 different substrates I use sphagnum moss that is saturated on the low side, tropical coconut husk in the middle and on a high side I use Sani-Chips.

The variation in substrates and levels lets the snake regulate its own temperature and Humidity levels. The animal knows best when she needs to be wet, dry, warm or cold.

I have vines, and those suction cup plants all through the cage and it seems that the BRB only goes on them to shed off her skin. I use an Under-tank heater for the heat and it rocks the ambient temperature up to the mid and low 80's.

I keep the top mostly open with a wire mesh top and only fill the tank to keep the humidity between 65-90% humidity. I have worked with many snakes and zoo environments and feel that the best way to create an enclosure is to test out different solutions and see what works best for each individual animal. I know that some in this thread say that most time is spent in the air...I agree. The 6.5 foot male I care for spends almost all of his time wrapped up like a Green Tree Python on vines so we have set up his enclosure to handle that kind of set up..

If I could give one piece of sound advice I would say get a cage or enclosure is to make it edit-able and agile to different setups. For a young BRB I like the 20 gallon long solution because it can both have the tree setup as well as a ground terrestrial setup.

Usually you can attain these setups for a total of 100 bucks including everything except the snake....why have a beautiful BRB in a tank that isnt as natural as possible.
