I wan't bulb to raise humidity but I already have the fixture just thought I would put it on there. Also whats a good cheap Thermostat?

Also my cage doesn't need clips. Nor do I think they make clips for my type of cage. Its a slide on not a pull off. If snakes are known to get out of those please tell me though I will definitely look for clips.

I keep most of my snakes in tubs, but I have two in 40 gal slide top cages like that. I put a few strips of tape around the outside because I had a kingsnake pop one open once. It's a pain taking the tape off and on all the time, but it's better than an escape.

No, it will still lower the humidity. Putting it over the water bowl just creates a pool of warm water, which makes it a lovely place for bacteria to hang out.

Using a lamp over a water bowl is not an efficient way to up humidity.

I tried this when I was still trying to use a tank and didn't actually work. Not saying it won't work for you though. You probably should get the lamp though in case you can't keep the ambient temps up. Humidity problems can be solved with a humid hide or just by adding moss to the enclosure.

As for the thermostat everyone has been recommending this one lately, it's reliable and and cheaper than the ReptiTemp or the Zilla Temp Controller (which I use and is also very reliable but many people have had issues with it so I wouldn't recommend it).

Hmm, I'll give the Water Dish Lamp thing a try and yea it would be nice to have one just in case.

And I'll look into some thermostats just gets confusing trying to find a nice cheap one.

Well, you can use a light

BUT

make sure its:

50 - 75 watt

INFRARED (so the snake cant see it at night)

This way you can keep ambients up and have the bulb running 24/7. as long as its infrared it wont disrupt day/night cycle of your snake AND you can still veiw it at night!

You might try Cypress Mulch for substrate, it blows reptibark out of the water for quality, and it holds humidity better than aspen shavings, however aspen shavings in my opinion are much better than the reptibark.

I list them for quality here, 1 being the best 4 being the worst, (in my opinion)

1. Cypress Mulch ( If you have humidity issues this stuff works great!)
2. Aspen Shavings
3. Paper Towels / Newspaper
4. Repti-Bark (ugh)
