Re: Got a new pistol today!
Coming to the thread way late. Not a fan of CZ but congrats on the purchase.
A firearm is a tool. Nothing more. Having it while hunting can bring you home dinner and having one in a self defense situation can save your life.
On the subject of concealed or open carry. Having a firearm gives you an option. When a situation arises where someone is threatening your life, without the proper tools, you don't have have alot of choices. There are other nonlethal options which is great depending on the user but a firearm is just a tool which can give you the option to defend your life or your families.

Now this is a hot topic. If you tell the judge that you shot joe crackhead to kill you will probably be charged with murder. In a self defense situation you want to deescalate as quickly as possible. If you have to use lethal force, shoot to stop the threat. That may take one shot or several. To top it off you better be the one making the 911 call and requesting a paramedic to save your attackers life.

not to mention, this is America... if you wounded someone, they would probably try to sue you... and depending on the judge, they could win.

Amusing thread, especially the responses from Europe/Canada. Congrats on the CZ although I prefer to carry a Glock.

Nice pick up!
I've fired one of those a few times and it's a very nice weapon. The weight is big selling point for me.
My normal go-to side arm is Sig Sauer P220R Compact. I've been a Sig girl for years, but the CZ's might sway me over time.

Actually, and this is coming from an Alabama State Trooper friend of mine, if someone attacks you with intent to harm or kill you have every right to shoot to kill. Alabama law affirms a person's right to defend their life with deadly force wherever they are. I can't speak for other states though.

Re: Got a new pistol today!
Nice gun.
I have been thinking of a pistol for home protection lately. I have hunting rifles but nothing easily accessable in time of danger. After that article came out about New Orleans being one of the highest crime cities in the world....I just can't rely on someone else to keep me and my family safe. Then on second thought, if someone was breaking into my home....I really wonder if I could get to the gun in time.
I like the comparision to guns and snakes. It is never the 'good' people that obey the laws and keep things properly that you hear about. Most of the news coverage of snake attacks or guns killing people....all revolve around a criminal, an idiot, or some ignorant fool. If laws are passed, the only restrict the 'good' people....the criminals, idiots and fools will still do as they please.

How do you know if its fun or not? Have you tried it? Or are you one of those people who dismiss something based purely on some misconception of .... Danger in this case?
And in most states there is a law called the castle law in which if you feel that you or your family are in immediate danger from an intruder in your home you can legally shoot them. Now the complete legality of it can still be left up to a jury. I mean if someone kicks in your door and sees you and then turns to run off and you still shoot them in the back then it is the same as murder. THat of course is the worst summary of a law that I could have come up with but you get the idea.
If you take a CCW class they train you SHOOT TO KILL, ILLUMINATE THE THREAT. A wounded suspect is a suspect that sues you for bodily harm. Your word against a dead guys in court.
