Re: Breeding Plans ... Your opinion ?

Yeah this is my main goal to produce a Queenbee
But even if it takes me 9 years to produce one, i will be verry happy.

And after that i can go on with a new project
so i won't be thinking about the next step so much now i want my queenbee
but its still cool to see what posibility's there are in the future.

    Thanks everyone !

I know its like gambling and i could even produce only normals ... but i have high hopes
3 clutches would give you a good shot if they are decent sized clutches but you never know how long it will take you to get those three clutches. Putting all of your hopes into one female is a tough way to go. There are just so many things that can slow you down. That female could be a poor feeder, slow grower, slug layer, small clutch producer, every other year breeder.... If at all possible I would try to at least pick up maybe 2 spider females as well (unless you can afford more bumblebee's). That way when they are up to size you could breed a pastel lesser to all 3 of them and have a decent shot at a queenbee in your first year.

Just as an example, I paid a ton of money for a pair of Het lavenders back in 05. That female just produced her first good clutch for me last season. I actually produced lavenders from raising up and proving out my male het lavs possible het offspring (bred him to some normals in 07) before I got my first good clutch from the original 100% het female. To top it off that original het female is looking like she is only going to be an every other year breeder.

Just curious, if you want to hit a Queenbee out of this project why don't you get a Male Bumblebee and 2 or 3 Female lessers to pair with him. That would give you a better chance as just 1 female may not produce or have other problems. Also you could then breed the male to other morphs like mojave, pastel, black pastel ect...

A Mojave X Lesser has the potential to produce a mojolesser lucy.

Re: Breeding Plans ... Your opinion ?

I got a piece of advice from Brian Gundy not to long ago.

He said: "If you have a goal in a specific project, you need to have at least 2 males and 3 females."

He told me this because random things can happen. Snakes can become sick and die if not treated properly... sometimes even when treated properly. Not to mention slow growers, slug layers, etc as someone else mentioned.

I agree with everyone else here. You should have more animals for this project to speed things up a bit. You may not hit your odds in the time frame you have set with only 1 male and 1 female.

As goes for Spider Mojaves... I have seen them sell for as little as $600 and as expensive as $1200... recently. They are still in the bumblebee price range I would say.. It just depends on the size and sex of the animal when purchased.

    Good luck with your breeding.

    THanks everyone !

if it was up to me ... i have a snake room with at least 12 snakes ...
    BUT... my mom

She is Terrified of snakes ... and i mean Terrified :p
if she see's one on tv she gets all nervous and starts to complain about me getting one :p ( i begged her for 2 years now )
( finally i may get one :p and a male after a year or so )

But i'm hoping to live alone sometime soon so i can go buy a rack and get 6+ snakes.

But i LOVE all of your opinions so i can have an idea about what others do etc..

Re: Breeding Plans ... Your opinion ?

Hey i am thinking about a new 'problem' now...

So i will be buying a bumblebee and a lesser to produce Queenbee's.
Now buying a female(baby) first so it gets breeding ready in 3-4-5 years.
And after the female is about 2 years old i will buy my male.

This is what i was thinking:
if i buy a bumblebee(female) first, i wont have the bumblebee/spider/pastel morph in my females i will buy later on ...
And if i buy a lesser(female) first, i WILL have the bumblebee/spider/pastel morph in my females i will buy later on ...
And not only just the lesser in all my females ...

    SOO=> should i buy a bumblebee(female) now ... or a lesser(female) ?

Or shouldn't i look at it this way ??
( this all is purely for the future so i don't wish i had it the other way ... )
( Then again, ... my plans are Queenbee x lemonblast or desert .... so i don't think i will let those 2 i will buy trade partner, so i can keep producing queens ... )

If I want I spend 20.000$ on a snake. 2000+ is nothing for me
