    Struck himself....

I have a younger male pastel that missed the rat and struck a few times and ended up latched on to himself and tried to coil.....he finally let go and took a rat, but has anyone had this happen before? Should I be expecting a vet visit? I can see no damage, but he was ready to eat so I did not get a real good look....

    Re: Struck himself....

I doubt there's any damage worth worrying about. If he did get through the scales, just keep noesporin (NO PAINKILLER) on it til he sheds.

    Silly snake.

    Re: Struck himself....

hahah!! Sorry to laugh but that is one of the funniest things i have ever herd, im picturing that in my head.

Seriously though i doubt you have anything to worry about, unless you could visually see gash(s) in her scales the neosporin should more then do the trick.

that's like when your out to dinner and the waiter/waitress says don't touch cause the plate is really hot....you know you have to see for yourself lol... Maybe your snake just waned to see what her bit felt like!

Unless you saw blood I don't think you will have an issue.

My female struck & missed once as well. Her teeth got caught in the green reptile carpet & I had to assist her in freeing herself. Made me laugh at the time as well.

He should be fine as long as you don't see blood. If you do, simply treat it as you would any small wound.

I know it can be a little scary. None of my balls do it, but my albino burm, she eats piglets and when she needs leverage to get them down, she will actually bite herself and push against her body to get the piglets down. Odd I know. If I knew how to post pics I would show you!

have to admit, that is pretty funny, althought I think your snake will be fine even if you saw the tiniest amount of blood, just clean and rub a little neosporin on it, that kind without paint relief of course. where did the snake exactly strike itself, I'm trying to imagine the strike and coil lol
