    Re: Always sex your snakes!!

I purchased an 06 het pied female 3 years ago from a breeder who I had purchased lots of other animals from. She was always a slow eater and I have been trying to get her to breeding weight. Over the winter she always stops eating and is slow to start in the spring. She weighs about 800 grams right now. Last night I was woken up by my boyfriend because he was practicing popping. He was going down the line in the rack and picked up Candy. Imagine his suprise when a big fat hemipene popped out!

So I have to call the breeder now and let him know what is going on. I never sexed the animal when I recieved it because I purchased probably 10 other animals from him and all the others have proved to be the proper sex.

Is probing easier/safer than popping for a beginner? I'm concerned now.

i would say there equally dificult for a begginer the best way to do it is to find someone that has done either of them before and ask them to show you how to do it popping in my opinion is alotharder because of the fact the most of the time the male will hold back his hemipenes witch could cause problems like most of the people on here are talking about. but probing you have to buy probes wich i can not seem to find online.

    well good luck,
    Mike H.

    Re: Always sex your snakes!!

I probed my snakes and I going to reprobe them 2-3 times until I get the same result (not all in the same night ) but I think I got a couple more males than I though but they so big and i hate to sell them ( adopt them out) and find out they were a female. it take time a patiance to get use too. It harder when the pucker up the butt lol

    Re: Always sex your snakes!!

Ive seen so many videos of popping and im not sure if im doing it right, i mean with my babies that I had I popped the ones that I suspected were males or the ones that I was told were males, are there any videos that really really go into detail on how to pop? Ive seen the 8ball video and a few others.

That kind of feeding behaviour is a bit of a give away, isn't it? Not 100% but quite a good clue with sub adults and adults that you might have a male.
