    Re: ReptiTemp 500r = garbage

at most mine will fluctuate by 5*.

i have my probe duct taped to the bottom of the UTH and my accurite probe right over the thermostat probe. temps are perfect and cleaning is easy
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

    Re: ReptiTemp 500r = garbage

From what ive found is that a % of the reptiTemps do not work good. I on one hand had one that worked great, got another one, and it sucked. It seems like this is what happens with other members as well, some say it works fine, some say it wont work at all. Do not forget that the Reptitemp is an On/off Thermostat, so room temp changes and how fast the heating device warms up and cools down affects it. Being an on off is also the reason why the temps are always so different.

I believe it depends on what your trying to use it on. With Flexwatt it worked GOOD ( Not the best comparing to my Helix's that I now use) Heat rope horrible, and heat pad Not good either.

My best advice is save up and get something you know will be dependable.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I basically narrowed it down to a Helix or a Herpstat. Out of the Helix and Herpstat, which is the better in your opinions?

Looks like I am going to drop around another $150 sometime soon, which sucks because I can only really work part time because of college and other crap. Man I wish I hit the lottery.

Those things are junk, you get what you pay for tho. You may aswell just spend the extra $80 and buy a tstat.
Or use a ultraherm heat pad and play with the depth of your substrate, and not use a dimmer or anything at all..

I'm very pleased with my HerpStats. They're a little less expensive than Helix, and work equally well. Lots of bells and whistles, too.

    Re: ReptiTemp 500r = garbage

ok my turn i have and stand by my repti therm but i also have alot of stuff attached to it like a digital thermometer probe taped to the reptitherm probe to make it have a "digital" readout, i also put a dimmer (i use one that goes in the wall) on it to make it to where you can set the heat tape at a temp you want and it will kinda hold it there but it wont let it go to hot. so if you mess with it you will be fine, i used mine to incubate my clutch this year and it did perfect. BUT as soon as my new bator is built im putting a RANCO on it.

I agree. I've had a herpstat for 3 years. It blew a fuse once. I sent it back to them. They fixed it and returned it free of charge, I had it back within a week. I would highly recommend herpstat's to anyone.

    Re: ReptiTemp 500r = garbage

Late post if you havent picked it up yet. But i would go with the straight herpstat proportional stat non grounded to save a few bucks . I think they're like 108 bucks or something. Helix is good as well , just not as many features. But i would try to get a proportional as opposed to an on/off type. I believe they work on a 3 deg drop before they activate.
