feeding schedule
i feed my normal once a week on saturdays two live mice and i was wondering if i can start feeding her every 6 days and now overfeed her. i noticed that she was all over the tank yesterday what looked like to be looking for food so she might be hungry... ive only had her for a little over a month and shes an awesome eater so im curious to know if its okay for me to start feeding her every 6 days or ever 5.... thanks a lot everyone

What's wrong with feeding her once a week?

Re: feeding schedule
nothing, shes eating like a champ and she looked like she was looking for food yesterday (2 days before her feeding) and i figured if shes going hungry i can switch to every 6 days instead of 7. i also want her to get big but without feeding her too much.

Re: feeding schedule
If they take food on an earlier day, might be time to feed a bigger meal.
How old is he/she? Sometimes when they're still small feeding ever 5 days is excepted, as they do most of their growing quite quickly at that stage. Normally this stops and goes back to every 7 days when they get big enough and refuse meals.
Hope that helps.

Re: feeding schedule
I have 3 BPs and I feed them all every 5 days. They range from 4 months to 1 year old. I feed my youngest a small mouse, and the other two small rats. None of them are over weight. I think you would be ok feeding every 5 days.

Re: feeding schedule
I dont think youll ever have a problem with overfeeding your female ball. You can offer her food whenever she wants (at a young age that may be every 4-6 days) (I would consider that powerfeeding) which is something ive practiced with many of my young ball pythons. But with my experience that will not produce a larger snake. More substantial meals weekly works best. My suggestion to you is to switch her to small rats (it will be cheaper and is debatable healthier for the snake) Rather than two small meals once every 5-6 days try a rat every 7. If i am not mistaken I think it was Eugene Bessette on reptile radio that said the best way to size up a ball is feeding it mice! That can get expensive. I Fed my 11 yearold bush baby girl until age 3 Mice only lol. During the summer weeks she was pounding a dozen at one sitting! unless you breed mice that could mean 50cents to $1 a piece. So my suggestion is to go with what is available in the long run. 40 grams in mice for 1-$2 or a 50gram rat for $1-2.

Re: feeding schedule
i'd increase the meal size rather than the frequency with a young snake.. but i've done everything from feed every 5 to every 10 to every 14 days. My snakes tell me when they're hungry.. especially the BPs.
The boas have no off switch.. lol
